This Year's Model Updates:

A sporty new XRS model debuts boasting a 170-horsepower engine and a sport-tuned suspension. Additionally, all Corollas receive a restyled front fascia and rear taillights. The LE model now has Lexus-like Optitron instrumentation, along with a cloth-trimmed center console and sun visors. Side curtain airbags, stability control and a JBL audio system are all new options.

Pros:
  • Refined and roomy interior, excellent gas mileage and crash test scores, long list of safety features, spunky XRS model, illustrious reliability record.
Cons:
  • Awkward driver-seat position, bland personality, gets pricey when even basic features are desired, sedan body style only.

This car has left me on the side of the road. The computer (ECU) needed replaced. The window molding is a joke and coming off. It makes a cow sounding noise running at about 35 mph or breaking. Always is hard to start. The quality has slipped on the Corollas.

  • Good but Not Great - 2005 Toyota Corolla

Overall it is a great car. Fun to drive, a lot of pep for a car this size (without A/C, and only driver). Good design, holds up well. Got the car Feb 2005 - and it has 90,000 miles on it Sept 2008. No Major complaints, would recommend to anyone. Had to get the ECU changed within the first couple of months because it was hard to start. The tires wore extremely bad on edge even after Toyota Dealership aligned them Only 16K on 60K tires. Got them aligned recently and it has been much better. Passenger window rattles at any speed. Also the idle/tensioner pulley makes ticking noises and has been replaced 5 times, yes five times. Without the extended warranty Im sure this would probably be costly.

  • The Best of Many Worlds - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I spent a lot of time deciding on a car. I was almost sure I wanted a Civic Si, but when I randomly saw and test drove the XRS, my search had come to an end. It combines comfort, very decent styling, excellent interior materials and build quality, and easily the most rev-happy engine in its class. It can be driven mildly, as it doesnt actually hit 170hp until high (6-7k) rps but if you actually enjoy driving, its a blast. Love revving way up in 1st and youre good to go from there on out. Combine these things with the fact that Toyota has maintained a reliability record that with Honda has been on the decline, and you have one great car...if youre lucky enough to find one!

  • Almost Perfect - 2005 Toyota Corolla

It was a toss up between Corolla and Civic. Both have documented quality, comparable MPG and priced competitively. The Corolla won out and Ive been very pleased since. I have 27,000 miles so far with only minor complaints. Overall the Corolla is tight, surprisingly quiet for an economy car and the best gas mileage short of a hybrid. Ive noticed the prices have gone up considerably since I purchased mine, but its still a great car for the price. If youre a "bang for the buck" kind of person, this is the car for you.

This is my 3rd Toyota Corolla. I had the 2003 s series before I got my 2005 XRS. When I first drove my car off the lot and hit the freeway it made me scream. The power and speed were amazing. I love the race car bucket seats and the chrome trimming. However, the beep beep noise that the car makes when it is in reverse or when you dont put your seatbelt on fast enough are a pain in the "you know where." Overall the driving experience has been a pleasurable one.

  • Blah Blah Toyota - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I just bought the 2005 Corolla "S". Im confident that this bland little car will get me wherever I want to go for the next 10 years. A month ago my Subaru Legacy breathed its last breath in Hurricane Ivans floodwaters. I had to replace it quickly, and since the Subarus are now priced out of my range, I looked at a Mazda 3, a Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla. The Toyota looked like the best value so I bought it. I wanted something that would look fun but be reliable and perform well too, and I believe thats just what I got. I just dont like the front seat at all. I feel like its shoving my head forward.

  • Great All Around - 2005 Toyota Corolla

Great car for many different uses. Large driverspace! Im 65" 265 and I fit in there somehow. The rearview mirror creates a blind spot for me. Great gas mileage. Great trunk space! Road handling is nimble and can handle cornering well when pushed to the limit. The base model Corolla and the S model share the exact same engine. I would have boosted the engines horsepower output. Maybe use the Camry motor found in the new Scion tc. The manuals gearing is so long 55 mph can be reached in 2nd gear at 6500 RPM! Also the vvti kicks in too late in rpm range making it almost useless.

I love my corola, its a car i should have bought several years ago ive always been a chevy guy in the past but i got tired of haveing to repair them on a regular basis. Ihave found the toyota to be much more dependable and a lot better on gas.

I love this car. This is my third Corolla, the only thing I wish for, when I back out, the visibility is not as good as I would like it to be. It has great road feel, very positive steering and drives like a sports car. For the price it is a good bargain. I have not had a single adjustement, who ever put this car together did a super job. Congrats TOYOTA keep up the good work.

I have a 2005 Corolla CE that just turned over 170,000 miles. I have done nothing to it except routine maintenance. Runs just like it did when it was new. I plan on keeping it until the engine falls out of it.
