This Year's Model Updates:

One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.

Pros:
  • Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
Cons:
  • High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

I have had problems with the transmission not shifting into overdrive when the temp gets below 32 degrees. Dealer says its "NORMAL"). Also the front passengers inside door handle broke in half!(It was fixed under warranty).

Beware of the "performance tires". They are not all season or snow tires. The tires do not perform well when the roads are just wet. My first set of tires only lasted to 14,000 miles. Major thread wear down the center of all 4 tires. The tire mfg,Toyo, replaced all but 1 tire. I called Toyota in CA. who basically told me that no, the tires werent designed for snow and ice conditions and if they had to replace every part they ever received a complaint about they would be out of business! Toyotas customer service motto should read, "Buyer Beware"

I would highly recommend the 2002 Camry if you are in the market for a new car. When I first started looking at new cars a few months ago I was almost certain I would purchase the new Nissan Altima. Before I made my final decission I thought I should also test drive the Camry. It took me only a few moments to be glad I did. While the Altima is a fine car, the Camry is more spacious, quieter, smoother, more comfortable and has a much richer feel. This is the fist Toyota I have owned and I love it.

Have less than 1000 mile on it but I want to give you my opinion. Buy this car. The quality can not be touched by Ford or Chevy. Thats it.

I HAVE MY CAMRY NOW ABOUT 10 DAYS. THERE IS NOTHING NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THIS CAR.LEXUS QUIET,GREAT 6CD CHANGER,BUTT WARMERS OUT OF SIGHT AND MADE TO LAST FOREVER. THE ONLY PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WITH THE AM BAND OF THE RADIO, WHICH IS FULL OF STATIC. I WONDER IF THE WINDOW ANTENNA IS THE PROBLEM OR JUST A LOOSE CONNECTION. FIRST TANK GOT ME 30 MPG

I considered Toyota Camry for the reliability. The concerns about bland styling left me when I saw one and said "Is this really a Camry?" It looked so darn good. From the numbers, the Camrys solid. Ive owned it for a while and love the luxurious feel. The car is quiet beyond belief and the smooth ride is wonderful. Breaking is good. The XLE offers more features than I can count. My 4 cyl version is suprisingly powerful. My boss drove it she said, "So you got the 6 cyl huh?" She was shocked to learn it was a 4 cyl. Overall this car rocks ! Who says that this vehicle is for the over 40 crowd. I am in my 20s and am prowd to own it. I am liking this car more each day I drive it.

  • It Does What it is Supposed to Do - 2002 Toyota Camry

Our Camry has been utterly reliable. We like the attention that was given to seating height and overall comfort. Interior ergonomics is its strongest point. I dislike the marshmallow feel of the brakes, although they do seem to stop the car well enough. The exhaust pipe hangs far below the car, like that of an old school bus. I must be very careful on dirt roads with a raised center. I should not have to put up with the bulk and inefficiency of an SUV to drive rough country roads. Come on, Toyota, the world is not a California freeway.

The cars great. Never had any problem with any of my Toyotas. Step down from my 4-Runner, but its fun to drive. Great pick-up on freeway.

  • Once I Got Rid of the OEM Tires... - 2002 Toyota Camry

An excellent car from Toyota. Im a Camry vet from 92 and 96 (skipping the horribly de-contented 97-01 model), and after 18 months I am still in love with the car. Unfortunately, Toyota spoils the experience with inferior tires at the start - avoid the Bridgestone RE92s if you can. They lasted all of 30K miles. I now have Yokohamas and have an even quieter ride - and incredible wet and snow traction missing from the first 18 months. Another picky gripe is that the nav system is far too nannyish about not allowing the driver to use when in motion (although you can press touch-screen radio buttons to your hearts content at 80 mph).
