This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

  • Fun, Fun, Fun! - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I have a 2000 LE 4x2 with the old 170- hp geezer. After a string of trouble- free American SUVs decided to go import. This car is so fun to drive because you have an excuse to floor it all the time. I test-drove a 2002 LE and Thank God they put some balls in it! Build quality has been excellent. 34000 and only one glitch: A/C condenser fixed under warranty at 25K mi. will buy another one, still gets looks from adoring women!

We bought our Pathfinder in January 02, and have had no problems. Fit and finish top notch. Great stereo. Love those steering wheel controls.

Shopped the Pathfinder against Honda Pilot, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Escape. No comparison. Pathfinder had a cheaper lease, better equipment, more power and nicer ride than all the above. We were able to land a 2002 SE automatic w/ Popular package, mats, in-cabin filter for $27,000.

Just purchased an 02 LE. Love it. Had a Honda prior- a lease. DONT EVER LEASE. I made that mistake 3.5 yrs ago. My Pathfinder has all the perks. Smooth ride. Substantial power when I need it. Averages better gas mileage than advertised, 4-5 miles better. Nissan should revise the mpg to 19/23. Excellent vehicle to start a family with.

  • After One Week In Our New 02 Pathfinder - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

After a week with our new Pathfinder LE I must admit that Im very impressed overall. I also heavily considered the Toyota 4Runner, Infinity QX4 (almost the same vehicle as the Pathfinder), and Lexus RX300. Build quality is excellent. Performance excellent! Price was less than the Lexus and the Toyota. Drives more like a car than a truck. Not the most attractive of the bunch (the 4Runner is better looking). However, the 240 HP engine and towing capacity (tows my 2500 lb boat) put the Pathfinder well over the others. Even without the towing capability I would have chosen it though.

  • Total comfort - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

This is my first SUV. I never really considered a Pathfinder in the past because I thought of it as an off road vehicle, which I really didnt need. Then I sat in one at the NY Auto show and thought, this is really nice! I bought one and I love it. Though the gas mileage isnt the best, everything else about it outweighs that drawback. Its extremely comfortable, great handling, and has everything I would every need. My local dealer is great also. Very accommodating. So far, Im very pleased.

  • Natedog loves his Pathfinder - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

My first new automobile, and I went with the Pathfinder. I fell in love with it the first time I test drove it. I love everything on it, the interior, the conservative yet classy styling, and most of all the realiability. My dislikes are the pricetag for the LE wich I got, and the brakes seem a little jumpy. I looked at a lot of SUVs, but like I said this one by far was the best. It seemed like the Nissan dealer wouldnt go down much on price as would the Chevy dealer or Ford dealer, I guess the car sells itself.

  • Towing with a Manual Clutch - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

I bought a new Pathfinder SE 4WD with stick this year. Next I bought a horse. With 240hp, I knew I had plenty of power to tow a double horse trailer with two horses. Not true. Did you know that the manual transmission is rated at 3500 lbs. towing capacity while the auto is rated at 5000 lbs. ? Go figure ! What can I do ?

Edmunds should be ashamed with their recomendation for this poor excuse of an SUV. Tires on mine went bad causing a loud roaring sound but I think something is wrong with the suspension to cause them to go bad. Service Dept wont help at all. It wont carry much of a load without squatting in the rear ,very bad. Engine noise is terible, sounds like its coming though the firewall. I should have gone with Toyota.
