This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

  • Great rig - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought this new and thought it was fine. After 6 years of only doing minimal maintenance, this thing rocks. With limited slip diff and old fashioned 4x4 (which I prefer), this thing can plow thru any snow and even does better than most others trucks/SUVs in icy conditions. Just get some good aggressive tires for offroading or deep snow.

  • Great SUV - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought the vehicle on the first of February in 2002. I have found the SUV to be quite powerful on acceleration. The suspension is very tight with no road rattles or squeaks to be heard. Of course there is a small amount of road noise due to the 17 inch agressive tires. I found the exterior paint to be flawless. This was not true of the 2 Hondas that I own. The interior was just as nice.

  • Great SUV--beware of tire wear - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Terrific SUV and I would definitely purchase another one. I drive 42K/yr. and am very satisfied. If you buy one, be sure to rotate your tires often. I do it every oil change, 5K.

I tried the Explorer, Grand Cherokee, and others (even the non- truck SUVs,these are fine if you dont need the capabilities of a truck). I found the Pathfinder SE to be the best overall value (excellent reliabilty record was a big factor). The build is solid and of high quality. I have had it 3 weeks and I like it more each time I drive it. $1000 under invoice and 0.9 financing didnt hurt, either!

Ive had this 2 years. The main pros are the excellent comfort, handling and reliability. It handles like a car, or the 4-runner. Checked out the Explorer, and this feels a lot safer cornering. Looks are very good, the Bose Sound system is excellent and it never has any issues. Mileage is average at 17 MPG for me. It has plenty power for overtaking, and is always just big enough to fit bikes, and camping gear or furniture. Overall - My only complaint is the gas mileage, which has improved on the newer model. This is a great SUV, and a lot better value than the 4-runner which enjoys somewhat of a cult status. Well worth the money.

  • First SUV and loving it - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought a 4x4 2002 Pathfinder LE. This is the first SUV that I have owned. My previous car was a 1992 Lexus GS300, and I dont miss it. While the Pathfinder is certainly not a Lexus the ride is comfortable and the drive is very simular to a car. I have taking the Pathfinder off road once up in Malibu and it was a rush - after I got half way into it I realized I was dinking around with a new car so I slowed it down, but it was fun. The Pathfinder was able to hadle the trails very well. The milage I have gotton around town is about 14MPG and hwy has been about 17MPG. I test drove just about everything else out there and I am very pleased with the decision so far.

  • Almost Perfect - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I have owned 4 pathfinders. A 1993,1997,2001, and now a 2002 LE 4WD, purchased in February. The 2002 is by far the best car I have ever owned. It has plenty of HP and speed. The engine is enjoyable after about 5K miles. Why? I dont know. My only complaint is that the rear seats are uncomfortable as is taking things in and out of the rear seating area (car seats).

  • 4x4 heaven - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

2002 pathfinder SE is untouchable in most ways. Power, stability, styling, quality, ride comfort and did I mention power. However, every time I stomp on the accelerator pedal I see the needle on the gas gage drop...oh well, nobody said heaven is perfect and the sacrifices are well worth it! • Still going - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I inherited this car from my parents. My dad used to drive for a living and I received it with over 200K miles. I just hit 303K and still going strong. I love this car and the only problem Im having is finding something equivalent to upgrade it. The newer pathfinders are completely redesigned with a third row seat that I am not thrilled about. I love my cargo space and moving 4-5 time in college, I could fold down my seats and fit just about anything including large furniture. Of course I didnt maintain my car as properly as I should have being a young adult but my check engine light stays on.
