This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

Love to drive it. Could use a little more front and rear leg room. Wonderful handling

  • Best Midsize SUV - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Love this SUV. It handles great on the road, as nimble and stable as it gets for an SUV. Great power, gets off the line very nicely. Very fun to drive. Trade-off for the stability and agility is a harsh ride (especially for backseat riders). Bumps are very hard and abrupt with 5 ppl. Even though its a 2WD I have taken it offroad and it has handled everything Ive thrown at it. Average 16-17 mpg mixed (majority city). Zero problems.

  • Last year for 5 speed stick shift 4x4 Pathfinder - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Purchased with 165k miles. Added tow hitch. An outstanding truck with 2 minor exceptions; engine check light comes on. and CD broken. The engine light on from non tight fuel cap code Sensor not working properly? The only real issue is, my son had an accident with it (fell asleep @ wheel & hit poll at about 60MPH) head on, dented front frame about 6 inches in. spun around and crashed another poll crushing passenger doors & front passenger fender BUT, airbag didnt go off? However he did not have a scratch, truck continued to run fine only non- body damage was power steering line. Junkyard hood, doors bumper, grill, fender. I say A VERY Safe truck.

  • I love IT - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought my Nissan a few month ago and I would have to say there is nothing about that disappoints me. I live in Great Falls Montana. It has been below zero temperatures. There is not a block heater on my Nissan and yet it has started every time.

  • Love my Pathfinder - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I inherited my car from my sister in 2003 and it has been the best vehicle I have ever had. It has 150000 miles now and you cant even tell. We handle typhoon like rains here in Northern CA. Ive driven it through the snow without hesitation. This car is so reliable. My mechanic and a couple guys at the oil change shop have said theyll buy it anytime Im ready to sell. The only major problem Ive had is the bushing pin went out right when I took over from my sister - I figured it was because she didnt know how to drive a manual transmission. No problems ever since. If they sold this model again I would buy it. When this one dies Im buying the latest version of a Pathfinder.

  • Like my PF LE but... - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Love the size of the PF as its l&w are comparable to most midsize cars. Acceleration is good. Steering is secure. Handling great with the AUTO feature. Fun to fishtail in RWD mode. The interior is better than other non- luxury SUVs. It gets bouncy. Some squeaks and rattles, but most fixed. Nissan Customer service is poor. Consider a 1 year old Infiniti, especially in LA, where name plates count. Also the warranty is 1 year longer and the service is excellent

  • SUV satisfaction - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

We got the full 4-square treatment, but still paid close to Edmunds TMV at the time (around 30k). We have had very few problems and mechanically have had to just do the usual oil changes and regular service. My wife is the main driver of this vehicle and she was dead set on getting an SUV. We looked around at a number of them - Jimmy (unsupportive seats and mushy handling), Tahoe (too big), Passport (buzzy interior), Cherokee (this one was used and too old) - and found what we wanted in the Pathfinder.

  • Not what I expected... - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Horrendous gas mileage, window leaks, exhaust rusted out after 20 months, lots of noises coming from rear end, CD player does not like the cold weather, steering wheel is falling apart. Original tires lasted 20k miles. Will not purchase a Nissan product ever again.
