This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

I love my pathfinder! Very fun to drive, reliable and great performance. Only complaints:1.quality of cloth -- not terribly bad but it getting worn fast. Also, the because beige in color, shows stains. Recommend leather or dark cloth. Always replace brakes at the dealer. I made a mistake of getting brakes at one of those discount stores and their brakes do not hold up well

  • Overall Good SUV - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Overall my initial impression of this vehicle is very good. I looked at the Toyota Highlander and Chevy TrailBlazer. As a past Super Chevy sportster it was hard not to go with the Chevy but the reliability concerned me. The highlander was a minivan dressed to look like a SUV. The Pathfinder was a true truck buy didnt ride or handle like one. I only have two issues at this point. First, there appears to be excessive play in the drive train. Second, the Bose stereo is underpowered and has disappointing sound quality. I am not a radio blaster but you need to hear the radio when your on the road with the windows down. The in dash 6 CD changer is nice.

Recently purchased the Pathfinder and love it.We looked at the Bravado (Olds) and was also a very nice SUV but very pricey. What I like about the Pathfinder is it basically has everything you need in the luxury department. It has everything but leather ,which doesnt bother me to have.Lots of power but as you know these vehicals dont mind stopping at the gas station. Oh well Ive been the van route for the last 6yrs and will not go back to a van, basically sick of them. All in all the 02 Pathfinder is a great SUV.Period.

Drove the SE last after checking out the Trailblazer,Explorer and Grand Cherokee Laredo. If you are looking for the most car-like ride, which we were, then head straight for your nearest Nissan Dealer. We bought the vehicle right off the lot,SE popular pkg w/auto trans.,body side moulding and floormats for $200.00 over invoice.Take the rebate and 5.9% APR instead of no rebate and 3.9 APR,you will save about $8.00/mo for 48 months.Dealership was great...no hassles or aggrivation.

  • Solid Feel SUV - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Feels very solidly built. Interior not as cheap feeling as others. Does feel narrow though and rear seat could be larger. Horsepower very good. Steering tight making it easy to drive. Buying experience not good, very slick dealerships.

  • scratched paint - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Picked up my Pathfinder. Took off the wind deflector for the sunroof that can with the vehicle( I dont like them or the look. It was all scratched underneath. A little disappointed at the fools that installed it. They did a good job messing up the Sherwood Green paint, right to the metal(and not just a little). Bringing it back to dealership, after having it 1 day. Other than that. Its no sedan (previouesly owned a 2001 V6 Accord EX), but I knew that before my fiance and I traded our cars in for one automobile.

  • 3 years and 60,000 miles later - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

This has been a very good vehicle for us. Runs rings around the 99 Grand Cherokee we had before this Pathfinder. However in my 40 years of driving I have never had an exhaust manifold break. Not one but both broke on this SUV at 50,000 miles and the dealer wants $1200.00 to replace them. I feel this is not a normal situation and should have been replaced under the drivetrain warrenty. Besides this issue this has been a very reliable SUV, we travel with it alot and I have confidence where ever I go with it.

  • Love my Pathfinder - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Handles well on-road and off. Wide profile not the best in snow, but decent with good tires. Very comfortable, and most importantly, eminently reliable in over 85,000 miles. Of course, gas mileage is pretty poor, but I think I will keep it as a second car for camping, trips, etc., even when I look into a more economical daily driver.

  • Great Car if you are under 6 tall - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

We havent quite had it a month yet, but we love it. One thing, well maybe two. I am 63" tall and weigh over 250 (Relatively muscular 250) and it is a snug fit. My legs are pretty cramped and there is not a lot of room on the sides. I know it is one of the stronger V6 motors for this size vehicle, but the mileage is pretty week. I have a big V8 Chevy truck and it gets just a few miles less per gallon.
