This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

  • Not Good if in an Accident - 2003 Nissan Murano

It was in a little fender bender. No air bags deployed; the car that hit me and my car were only going ten miles an hour but the repairs for my Murano were over $8000. My car was hit on the drivers side on the edge of the bumper. From the outside it looked like only the bumper was damaged, yet the battery encasement holder was pushed into the transmission and a whole new transmission was needed. Am wondering if this was just a fluke, or if these cars are just fragile.

I had my murano for four years now and I had it. I considered all the problems it cost me...alternator, replaced battery TWICE, replaced door locks, replaced gas door, NOW they are telling me that I need to replace my engine mount because its cracked. I drive my cars cautiously, and I need something reliable. Did I add that it left me stranded TWICE and I had to call for help. Thats when I had the alternator changed. Now that I have a family, I cannot be wasting my extra cash on repairs/replacement. I will NEVER purchase another Nissan. This will be my first and last.

  • 3 years later.... - 2003 Nissan Murano

So now that the 2003 models have some serious mileage on them, I am curious how many of them had transmission issues... At 68,000 we had to replace ours and 30,000 miles later, the transfer case had to be replaced. Got past the minor annoyances (poorly placed rear cup holders, buttons on rear view mirror should be lit) early on but the transmission issue is a problem.

  • So Far, So Good - 2003 Nissan Murano

Purchased new SL 2WD 3 weeks ago, $300 over invoice. So far been an excellent experience. Design and ride are great. Fuel economy seems to be improving (after bad start), on 3rd tank, up to 21mpg, but since mostly highway, should be better. Havent found many disappointments, its a great vehicle. One complaint is that it does still have a trucklike/SUV ride when cornering (but this is my first SUV after 10 years w a sports car), SE may be tighter suspension. Overall would recommend to any new crossover buyer.

  • Goodbye Murano - 2003 Nissan Murano

I absolutely loved the look and performance of this car. It did not get as good gas mileage as it was rated. Rated 20/24. I got 18/20 only occasionally 22. I need better mileage than that and just sold the Murano 2 weeks ago for a hybrid Toyota Prius. Back to the Nissan...the alternator went out last month but was replaced without incident under the warranty. I had the Cafe Latte interior and it was too light for me. I do a lot of paperwork in the drivers seat and got ink marks all over. The paint FALLS off of this car inside and out. It takes very little (bugs) to scratch especially on the bumper, connector between the hatch and back bumper, and the dash, steering wheel middle.

  • Driver Seat Rocking Movement - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

During my test drive I felt the seat slightly rock backward when accelerating from a dead stop. You could also hear nuts, bolts, plastic, or whatever it was, make a clicking sound when this happened. Dealer was suppose to fix prior to purchase, but said they can not fix it because it is the power seat. Bedford Nissan shrugged their shoulders and said "oh well". With some bumps you feel and it sounds as if the metal frame hit the bump. Overall, I like the vehicle but the seat movement is driving me crazy, especially knowing that it is a brand new vehicle.

  • Nissan Warranties Are No Good - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

I have NEVER had as horrible an experience as I have with this Murano, Nissan Corp. and the dealership. The vehicle is great but when it developed a problem emitting huge plumes of smoke, the dealership lied to me and have kept it for over 50 days. Nissan Corp and Nissan 1 have been no help. Nissan claims I did not change my oil frequently enough and that I did not use Nissan filters and oil. I have receipts and have faxed same to the company. Nissan tells me I need a new motor, but they will not cover it under warranty. This vehicle only has 12,000 miles. In short, Nissan does not stand behind their products

  • Buy This Vehicle - 2003 Nissan Murano

Sold our 2001 Mercedes C-320 for this vevicle. It is a decision we have not regretted. All the luxury of the MBZ with Nissans dependability and lower price. (We also own a trouble-free 01 Xterra). Love the sound system and the vehicles comfort. Why buy the Infiniti? A wiinner!
