This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

had the SUV about two weeks. very nice, I get alot of comments and questions about it. very good performance. like the CVT- its very smooth. interior ergonomics are nice. I finally got cupholder that is where my hand naturally grabs for. BOSE stereo is excellent. slightly hard ride, but it is much better than the standard SUV drive. Test drove Highlander, Pilot, X5 and chose the Murano.

  • PROBLEMS? - 2003 Nissan Murano

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VEHICLES I HAVE OWNED, BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME ANNOYING PROBLEMS. I HAVE RACED CARS, RESTORED CARS & SHOWED CARS, SO I FEEL NISSAN NEEDS TO GET A LITTLE FEEDBACK FROM OWNERS, NOT JUST COMPLEMENTS.

  • Fun to Drive but some bad luck - 2003 Nissan Murano

I have had my Murano since September, and it is very fun to drive. It is plenty powerful and it seems to me that it has a nice ride. I have had some issues with the windows creaking and clicking over rough roads and when I turn corners. The dealer has worked on this problem 3 times to no avail. I hope this gets fixed or I will have to ask for another one. This started only two weeks after I bought it. The other issue is not the dealers fault. The hood had bad paint. It was a lighter shade of silver on the front right of the hood. They are repainting it as I write this review. Very good otherwise.

Dont like CVT transmission at all. Slow acceleration, compared to other SUV like ML 320 or X5. Fuel economy on the highway - 18.5, on average. Rattling doors. Brakes are not adequate to the weight of the vehicle. Long stopping distance.

  • Decent outside, poor inside, high price - 2003 Nissan Murano

In person the Murano is a beauty. Inside is a different story. The seats are good but not great. The instrument thing on top of the steering wheel looks cheap and feels cheaper. The center dash looks like a glued on after thought. The plastics are OK but dull. There is huge "ledge" under the windshield. Think minivan inside. The V6 is powerful, the CVT strange but it really works. Power is very good from a stop or when passing. The suspension is decent, a little stiffer over bumps, but better than most SUVs. Steering is somewhat tight, but still feels strange. Brakes are good.

  • CVT Issues - 2003 Nissan Murano

We bought our Murano less than a year ago at 58k miles. Was looking forward to owning a Murano since they came out in 2003 and prices finally came down to where we could afford one. Well much to our surprise at 65k miles the engine starts to run at 4000 rpm going down the highway one long trip and we literally feel the vehicle losing power and jumping forward. We end up turning around on the highway in the median then cant move at all. COMPLETELY LOST POWER WITH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR!!! Thought we were going to be stranded on the highway! Turn engine off/on and it goes by golly. Took it back to dealer and found the transmission had to be replaced, metal in pan. CVT has issues.

  • Nice Sporty Ride - 2003 Nissan Murano

Test drove this SUV twice to make sure it handled and performed as well as I thought the first time. Handling is great and stable. The engine has excellent performance and runs very smooth. I just think it might be priced a little high considering nissan does not have high residual values like Acura or Lexus but it is priced around 38,000 for a loaded SE.

  • A fun car - 2003 Nissan Murano

Have had the Murano for 5 months. The dashboard has an annoying clicking sound and recently have been hearing some squeeking and crackling noises which are either coming from the suspenders or the shifting mechanism. will have it checked soon. The ride is smooth and stable. Milage is low for the gallon.

I have owned the Murano since 2003 when I purchased it new with 35 miles on it. The car has been great. The CVT tranmission is smooth and fun to drive. I love the enterior features and displays. The 2006 is a huge thumbs up with improvements.

Bought it 2 months ago after our first kid, and love it. Spacious, quick, and not a minivan.Lots of good features, feels & looks like a luxury vehicle. Great value for the price I paid.
