Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

  • BEWARE: 2003 Murano Tranny is a Lemon! - 2003 Nissan Murano

I bought an 03 Murano 62k miles on it. Beautiful, lots of features, pretty good MPG. Unfortunately, within a month or two I experienced the "bunny hop." In stop-and-go traffic, I first noticed the acceleration was sluggish. Then, after each complete stop, it was dangerously unresponsive - creeping along at a couple of mph. Then the engine figured out it was going too slow, it revved up and jumped forward. I could have rear-ended someone. Read other reviews and you will see that I am not alone. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CAR! It broke my heart because I loved my Murano. But I was tired of worrying that my transmission would either blow out or, worse, injure someone.

I gave up my Lincoln LS which was a terrific car for the Murano.Driving over the Colorado mountains convinced me that I had made a good choice...it drives even better than the LS with the best transmission I have ever driven. What a pleasure to drive.

at 4000 RPM the thing is a ROCKET. quick and RESPONSIVE. Interior steering wheel radio and cruise controls invisible at nite. Seats are TOO WIDE AND FLAT radio needs MP3 player. Info screen needs brightness control and display MPH? speedo is not clear lights should go OFF DRIVING AUTO to FULL ON and auto off. 3 outlets and they say use ONE AT A TIME! Love adjust seats and memory settings rear view mirror should be LINKED as are pedals. Middle console is cheaply designed Love the LOOKS it gets. car goes"BUDiBUM" whenever ruts and stuff. Horn should have THUMB control...must move hands to hit horn

  • beautiful gas guzzler - 2003 Nissan Murano

I have owned the Murano for 8 months and have discovered a few key things. As related to its size, this car does not get any where near the gas mileage it should. It does however pack a good bit of power. The ride is smooth but the driver seat has poor lumbar support and gives me back pain if driving an extended amount of time. The auto. handles very well and has room to store more than it appears. Still, with the price of gas I would recomend that Nissan rethink the fuel efficiency of their engines. You would think it would be possible to get performance and fuel economy wrapped up in one attractive package.

  • Good Vehicle But Not Great - 2003 Nissan Murano

Pros: Good workmanship, Good steering, Nice size, OK ride Cons: Engine Sound, Vibration through gas pedal, Large expansive dash - like a mini van, Costly by the time you add options.

  • So far, so good! - 2003 Nissan Murano

We ordered a Murano last Thanksgiving and got it earlier this year. It was worth the wait. Its a nice balance between utility, performance, and style. Has the utility to haul kids and dogs, performance to make you smile and style thatll have folks asking you about it. I havent taken the car to its limits yet, but for everyday driving its great. One thing Ive noticed is that to get optimum performance from the CVT you have to be pretty generous on the accel pedal. I.e. punch it if you wanna go fast.

  • Really bummed... - 2003 Nissan Murano

This is my 3rd Nissan-but my first brand new car. What a nightmare! Love the Murano itself, but I got a lemon! My car has less than 4,000 mi and has been in shop 5 times in last 6 weeks. Entire wiring harness was replaced last week. Trying to get issue resolved with Nissan, but a lot of red tape. Really hoping to get the new car I paid so much for soon because I have not enjoyed this car.

This car has been great for the past 5 years. Its been solid and has never needed any major fixes. Its always been very usable in the real world, from loading it full of items for transportation to driving around a full family of 5. With a black on black color with 22" black rims the car looks great even to this day. When driving around town it has always had solid pick up and the CVT is something that works seamlessly. You start to really love the gear changing without feeling it happening. In the last year or so I was rear ended. The car stood like a champ and only needed minor repairs to the muffler. Otherwise the bumper was perfectly fine. Its been a great car.
