This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

  • Mixed Bag -- Ya Love It Or Ya Hate It - 2003 Nissan Murano

Well, its a great substitute for a station wagon. The CVT takes some getting use to. Its a lot peppier in Ds mode. Although, Id rather have a regular automatic and more road feel. Fits in parking spaces, carries people, has so-so styling and the dealers are a mixed bag. I dont know, I get the feeling they could have done better.

  • Murano falls short on handling - 2003 Nissan Murano

The Nissan Murano, mine now with 7,000 miles. Great highway mieage 25mpg, terrible in the city 14-15 mpg, slugish ingine for a dead stop. Poor handling especially from my last SUV the BMW X-5. Very comfortable for long ride with pleanty of interior room if you dont need a third road. For the money, you get what you paid for and more.

I like the handling, comfort, speed, roominess, vision and intimidation factor. It gets RESPECT. Also, I feel safe driving it.

  • Why do I hate this car? - 2003 Nissan Murano

I bought this car because I thought (and still think) it is beautiful. There are, however, any number of problems Im having that make it very unpleasant to use. 1)its probably just me but I cant get comfortable in the drivers seat; 2) I ordered and paid for the roof rack in January and it still isnt available; 3) cup holders are very poor; 4) no rear light in the cargo area; 5)rear cup holder is on the floor, perfectly positioned to get kicked open every time someone sits there. Of all these, not being able to get comfortable in the drivers seat is by far the worst.

  • The Murano Rocks! - 2003 Nissan Murano

Nissan designed an SUV killer with this car. Ive been a truck man all my life, being that Im 6 5" tall. Just traded my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab for a 2003 Murano SL with everything but the Nav system. No other SUV in this price range has the leg and head room the murano has. Absolutely love this car. BOSE stereo system is an absolute must if your into music listening, blows the doors off of my Infinity stereo system I had in my last truck.

I purchased this car used from a lease return and I have had this car approx. 1 month and so far it is great. I love the ride and for an SUV the gas mileage is great. Although gas is a little expensive right now since i must purchase premium $2.67/gallon i get great milage. I use it for commuting and I get about 390 miles/full tank and before the gas light comes on if I wait for the light i get about 415. So far so good and I will get back to you in about 6months to update. This is a great car and fun to drive.

  • Its not perfect, but.. - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

Ya its not perfect. I have read reviews about how awfull the CVT is, and how the interiors of some have developed rattles. I have only had for a month, but I can see the happening. As far as the transmission, its not perfect, but does the job well. The ride is a bit harsh (I have an SE), but has little lean when cornering. Its a trade off thats worth it to me. Although it drives and handles like a car, it tends to understeer, and plow like an SUV. Its not the high quality you would get from Mercedes or other high end dealers, but its a lot of vehicle for the money. It sure is better than any minivan out there!

  • refreshingly fast - 2003 Nissan Murano

0-60 in like 7.5 sec for a SUV that also average like 20 mpg. Whats not to like? Concerns: long term reliability with new CVT tranny and price.

  • Radio problems - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

While I am pleased in general with my Murano, I have had a miserable time with the FM reception on the Bose stereo system. The problems are sporadic -- reception at times is excellent. However, when the signal goes, it goes with a blast of static that frightens everyone in the car, and then the signal is lost for the rest of the day. Im looking for a solution to this problem. Nissan hasnt been overly helpful. Also, the Murano sensors have required service, and the interior aluminum trim dents rather easily.
