This Year's Model Updates:

Kia joins the minivan rumble with the introduction of the Sedona, the lowest-priced minivan in America. Standard on the Sedona are such niceties as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and auto on/off headlights. Upscale EX models get a CD player, interior wood trim and power front seats. All Sedonas benefit from Kia's impressive Long Haul Warranty with drivetrain protection for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Unbeatable price, attractive array of standard goodies, great warranty package.
Cons:
  • Missing some key minivan features, engine could use more power.

What a piece of @#$%! We bought the vehicle for $25,000 and had $13,000 in warranty work done on it. It was in the shop over 60 days.

I only had my Kia for 2-1/2 weeks before I was involved in a head on collision with another driver. My car had extensive front end damage, it and has been totalled. It kept me and 3 kids safe, in spite of the fact that we were hit head on and shoved into two mailboxes that were cemented into the ground. I truly feel that our beautiful Kia saved our lives. The car is torn up, but it sure did its job!

The car drives well. I love the leather seats. The front console that folds down is wonderful. I wish the clock was positioned on the radio. It is akward to look up. This is our 2nd mini van and the first one with the 2nd sliding door. With 2 children in car seats it is vital. Difficult to get back to the rear seats. Back seats arent the easiest to remove. I like our Quest where the back seat can be slide up against the drivers seats better. Ive been getting a strange electronic sound. At first I thought it was the speakers, but Ive noticed it with the radio off.

My Sedona has 10,200 miles on it and it is still as smooth and quiet as brand new. I never really liked minivans, but as my kids are getting bigger, the room is needed. Im glad I purchased this vehicle because it drives well and I can haul lots of goods.I think in anothr couple of years and a few improvements, the Sedona is going to set the standard for minivans.

  • Spotty quality. - 2002 Kia Sedona

Terrible gas mileage - about 12 city, 16 or 17 highway. Eats front end tires quickly due to the heavy weight. At 49,000 miles Ive already gone through 2.5 sets of 60,000 mile tires on the front. Ive had to have the front brakes worked on twice, already replacing the brake rotors - not covered in warranty. A/C isnt very cold anymore, and the engine (or tranny?) is getting very noisy at only 49,000 miles. Im expecting something to go wrong within the year. Also - BEWARE - make sure you do all of the required servicing at the required mileage intervals or your warranty may be void. Check with dealer. There are a number of services that need performed at various intervals.

great van, rides great. Also had a problem with the windshield cracking by the defroster, anybody have any luck at the dealer? would highly recommend to anyone. Got the 02 EX with rebate for same price as 03 LX

  • Gas guzzler - 2002 Kia Sedona

Bought this van used and had nothing but problems with it. Air conditioning never worked;had a tiny leak that no one could ever find. Engine missed and jerked whenever the weather was humid and cool;basically all Spring and Fall. Again, no mechanic could figure out what was wrong. Rear heat antifreeze pipe rusted and broke. Sliding doors were heavy and hard for kids to pull shut. The MPG was horrible!!!! I got 13 MPG in the city!!! This van was constantly out of alignment and the tires always wore unevenly. It just wouldnt stay in alignment no matter how many times I had it done and bought new tires. The van was a piece of junk and Im so glad to be rid of it.

Not only is thsi van fun to drive, good looking and powerful - it is one of teh safest minivans made! I am VERY happy having bought this Van, and am having LOTS of fun with it! I iwsh it were a little more fuel efficient, but then I may not be able to tow. LOVE my Kia Sedona!

  • 2002 EX - 2002 Kia Sedona

I purchased a 2002 EX with a $1000 rebate. The rebate made this deal to tempting. The Sedona rides well and has a ton of creature comforts. Everything from auto head-lights to power seats. The LX is nice too but the EX had to many extras for a small difference in price.
