This Year's Model Updates:

Kia joins the minivan rumble with the introduction of the Sedona, the lowest-priced minivan in America. Standard on the Sedona are such niceties as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and auto on/off headlights. Upscale EX models get a CD player, interior wood trim and power front seats. All Sedonas benefit from Kia's impressive Long Haul Warranty with drivetrain protection for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Unbeatable price, attractive array of standard goodies, great warranty package.
Cons:
  • Missing some key minivan features, engine could use more power.

We bought our van 4 months ago. I have been driving a five speead for 5 years. I was worried about switching to an automatic. BUt this van is great. the pickup is excellent. I am never worried about not having enough power. I drove other vans, like the Odessey and Town & Country. I like the Sedona better hands down. The Odessey which has 240 hp feels much more sluggush than the Sedona. The interior is very nice we have an EX with leather. We got such a great price on it also. It is very comfortable!! I am now looking forward to the Sorrento. I cant wait to check it out. I would highly recommend this van.

I bought a 2002 Sedona EX in May 2002. I love the way it drives. It handles well and is tight and solid. However in the last five months the dealer has had the car almost as much as I have. For several different evelectrical problems. So far they have replaced the alternater, radio, keyless entry receiver, and the power seat switch. It took three visits to the dealer and a total of 8 weeks. They provided a rental car so I didnt loose anything. But at this point its going to take a while to build any kind of confidence in the car. I hope I dont have anymore problems becuase I really like the car, and dont want to get rid of it.

  • Scared To Drive ! - 2002 Kia Sedona

This van is a piece of junk. Alternator went out. A/C compressor blew up. Back brakes leaking fluids. Small things inside van breaking: visor mirror cover, ashtray cover, back seat compartment cover. It has terrible terrible gas mileage. My mystery check engine light goes off and on as it pleases. The exhaust fumes are terrible. We are military and live 12 hours from our home state and I am scared to drive it. I am upside down if I trade it in , but I am willing to sacrifice a few dollars for the safety of me and my children. I actually felt safer in my 1995 Hyundai Accent. This is a no-buy.

I purchased one of the first off the assembly line and have hated it every day since. This vehicle has been nothing but problems since the beginning. I would not recommend even my worst enemy to purchase a Kia!

  • 10 yrs and still looks/drives well - 2002 Kia Sedona

Update: Took the Sedona in at 99.5k miles because trans was slipping into 5th gear. After submitting much paperwork showing detailed maintenance, KIA replaced trans free, along with motor mounts and exhaust which had cracked. Wow! So now at 107k miles, the thing is clean and runds well. I had to replace the door handle that just came off in my hand. $30 and 2 hrs work. Im thinking of trading it in on a Rondo. Id prefer the better gas mileage and no one seems to know just how nice those Rondos were, so they are priced low. Go KIA!!!

  • Our 1st Minivan - 2002 Kia Sedona

After extensive research the Kia Sedona was the obviuos choice for my family. The look and ride are excellent. We got a fully loaded van for $23,600. The dealer, at no charge, also threw in the cargo net, sunroof deflector and pin striped the van to match the two tone. Only have 600 miles on it but we love it anyways. Time will tell if its reliable. But the 60,000 bumper to bumper and the 100,000 mile powertrain warranties will help.

  • Got a Sedona 1 - 2002 Kia Sedona

I just picked up our new blue/beige Sedona EX today with 24 mile on the ticker. I was worried about getting a Kia because of their past history of building unremarkable cars. I bought the Sedona because I was impressed by the content per dollar vs the other vans we were considering and my positive first impression. We looked at vans from Honda, Mazda, Chrysler, Toyota. Everybody wanted too much money for a van with any kind of options. Even with some rebates on the others the Kia still won out. Now the big question is, will we have to USE that fantastic warranty Kia has or will the van be reasonably trouble free. I will keep you posted.

  • 4 years owned and still likin it - 2002 Kia Sedona

I have owned my Sedona 4 years in October. I have had a good experience with it and would recommend it to any one interested in a minivan at a lower than average price.

  • Better than I expected - 2002 Kia Sedona

We bought our Sedona new in 02 after our Windstar gave up the ghost. After all of our shopping around, test driving, negotiating, etc. it came down to the Kia or a Honda Odyssey. Hondas warranty was a joke and their non-negotiable price was $6 grand more. We took a chance. Cant say weve regretted it. A few quirks that were expected for the first model year of any car, but the warranty covered everything. Gas mileage continues to be a disappointment, but this thing plows through the snow and tows a fishing boat with no issues. Would like to buy the wife a new one but at 185,000 miles she refuses to give it up. Perfect? No. But definitely a lot for the money.

Rides great, wonderful for road trips. Room enough to sleep with rear seats removed. Entire electrical system went out, burning smell, was in shop for over a week. Did have minor reoccurring electrical troubles that were repaired under warranty. At 60,400 miles the alternator went out, only financial assistance offered was from a kind service manager. Kia Customer Service refused any assistance. Dont know if I would purchase another.
