This Year's Model Updates:

Kia joins the minivan rumble with the introduction of the Sedona, the lowest-priced minivan in America. Standard on the Sedona are such niceties as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and auto on/off headlights. Upscale EX models get a CD player, interior wood trim and power front seats. All Sedonas benefit from Kia's impressive Long Haul Warranty with drivetrain protection for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Unbeatable price, attractive array of standard goodies, great warranty package.
Cons:
  • Missing some key minivan features, engine could use more power.

  • A gamble that is still paying off - 2002 Kia Sedona

We bought the Sedona because it was about $10K less than what I was going to pay for an Odyssey. People warned me about poor build quality and other things. The build quality is pretty good. You simply get a very good car for the price. Its engine is powerful enough if you dont go over 85 mph very often. The handling sucks, it feel like the suspension is well too soft or the van is too heavy. Still, we have not experienced a single problem, so I guess the gambling is paying off.

  • Like it - 2002 Kia Sedona

Excellent overall value. My wife loves the vehicle. Could use more braking power considering its weight. Lacks get-up-and-go. Fuel efficiency is poor. Handles very well and conveniently converts from passenger vehicle to hauler with minimal strain.

  • Beats GM! - 2002 Kia Sedona

Beware of cracking windshields - no one mentioned this yet. Its under warranty but a bit of a pain. Great features except for the single power door lock button and remote. Beats the crap out of the Venture I just returned. The automatic intermittent wipers are interesting. Cant believe there is an ashtray, and that there is no clock on the radio (its up on the computer). Miss the navigational feature on the GM onboard computers. Still get funny looks from all my friends - time will tell if we were smart, so far so good.

  • Better Than Decent Van - 2002 Kia Sedona

Quite pleased, especially for the price. Looks nice, rides well, feels safe. Fit and finish better than imagined it would be.

  • expensive repairs - 2002 Kia Sedona

I made a major trip ( 6000 miles back & forth & the van was wonderful).Very comfortable driving & interior. Once it crossed the 60,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty it started to have every major problem. # 1 some kind of pulley broke inside ( total cost $ 1300), then alternator ( cost $ 600), then seat belt ($ 125), then steering shaft ($ 200), then engine light ( minor issue but I didnt fix it).The plastic on the sides of the doors is kind of weak), bumpers are thin & fragile( I didnt fix it) finally a trauma to the backlight will cost $ 250 to replace. This vehicle is expensive to repair. Gas mileage is not great but not that terrible anyway.

  • Great for a minivan - 2002 Kia Sedona

I bought the Sedona because we needed the practical family vehicle. It came fully loaded with leather seats for under $23,000. It fits the five us nicely, but is lacking in the trunk space dept. like all other minivans. It has a very smooth ride and I like the pickup and handling. Sleek style too! Used it to go on a road trip, and logged in 1200 miles within the first week, nice and comfortable.

  • SMART MONEY - 2002 Kia Sedona

I had no intention of purchasing a Kia Sedona, when visited my local dealership to trade in my 93 Villager. I had test drove many minivans and was not impressed with them including the much acclaimed Chrysler mini-vans. My Kia dealership is also a Honda dealership. They always have a good selection low mileage used vehicles. I tested a 2000 Dodge Caravan for 24 hours, I was not in the least bit impressed. The vehicle was cheap and bland. The dealership offered me a 2000 Kia Sedona demo, my wife and I were impressed with the vehicle. I could not believe that a vehicle could cost thousands of dollars less than its competitors and be superior in many ways.
