This Year's Model Updates:

Kia joins the minivan rumble with the introduction of the Sedona, the lowest-priced minivan in America. Standard on the Sedona are such niceties as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and auto on/off headlights. Upscale EX models get a CD player, interior wood trim and power front seats. All Sedonas benefit from Kia's impressive Long Haul Warranty with drivetrain protection for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Unbeatable price, attractive array of standard goodies, great warranty package.
Cons:
  • Missing some key minivan features, engine could use more power.

Ive been happy with the sedona overall. It served its purpose with small children. However, the gas mileage has always stunk and the trade- in value is difinately something to consider. Were about $6000 upside- down and it only has 16,000 miles in 2 years. For a mini-van, probably a good buy if you intend to keep it forever.

I waited 3 months before review. Thoroughly pleased. Power is incredible. Gas mileage could be better, but people must understand the box-frame, which will be there to save your lives if you need it - not ound elsewhere & accounts for the weight. Great ride, got everything save for leather & spoiler. $22K even. Pay $25K+ for Honda/Toyota/Ford? Why? More stylish in biased opinion than all others cept for maybe the Grand Caravan (at $30K+). Nice wheels. Super body styling. Nice dark privacy glass. Big seats - easy removal. Obscene warranty! GREAT roadside service used once - I missed that one of the boys left the light on and the battery drained.

The Sedona is a joy to drive. The first weekend I drove it, I got a speeding ticket -- my first one in ten years. Drove from St.Louis to Florida last summer and the cruise control had no problem maintaining speed over the mountains. The windshield cracked due to the heat and it took awhile to get a new windshield installed (it was back ordered). However, the service department was great when the parts actually came in. The Sedona does have many many blind spots. We had to remove the headrests in the back to be able to see out of the back window.

We bought our Kia brand new in May 2002 (EX model with leather, moonroof, rear spoiler, the works). The price was excellent!! The Van runs great and weve had very few problems which only includes the check engine light coming on twice in 2 years. But it was for very minor problems. We also recently bought another one (used 2002 LX). I love that one too! The LX is mine and the EX belongs to my husband. The Sedona is just a great value.

After 30,000 mile service by dealer Transmission began to slip on second shift after making a left hand turn. Dealer stated it is normal for transmission to slip when aceleriting after making a left turn that it is serching for a gear.( BS ) Dealer was suposed to drain radiator and flush, then fill with new antifreez. after ariving home I checked under hood and radiator cap had never been removed, still had dust and dirt on cap with no signs of ever being removed. Was told tey drained radiator, and flushed and refilled through the reserve tank. MORE BS. I love the vehicle but hope I can find a dealer who will listen to me and fix my problems.

From the beginning, this van consumed oil excessively. Kia dealers refused to address the problem. Not a lot of space for groceries. Internal pieces are cheap and they fall off.

AFTER 9 TRIPS TO THE DEALER IN 16 MONTHS, IVE GIVEN UP AND IM GETTING RID OF THIS PIECE OF JUNK. I DONT KNOW WHAT IS WORSE, THE DEALER OR THE CAR. 4 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT, IVE HAD NOTHING BUT CONSTANT PROBLEMS STARTING WITH THE A/C NOT WORKING TWICE, STRESS CRACK IN WINDSHIELD, TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT,COOLING SYSTEM, DRIVER SEAT COMING LOOSE. NEED I SAY MORE!

We chose the Sedona due to the warranty. I just didnt know how much we would have to use it. This bucket of junk has been in the shop on average once every 5 months. The Korean made tires have dry-rotted after less than three years of ownership. The gas mileage is horrible. Stay away form KIA.

  • Buy a Kia and save $20,000! - 2002 Kia Sedona

Between the 0% financing, not having to spend $1000.00 to purchase an extended warranty, and the difference in price compared to the Honda Odyessy ($30,000.00) I figured I saved about $20,000.00. Everyong can talk trash about the Kia Sedona if they want but so far so good. The professional reviews dont do it justice. Its got plenty of power, lots of room, numerous creature comforts, and is thousands less than the competition. The only thing I would change on this vehicle is the funky way the rear seats fold out of the way. Its a secure method but just flaky. Other than that its a bargain.
