An AM/FM/CD stereo and a tilt steering wheel are now standard on all 2004 Jeep Wrangler models. A new aluminum wheel design is standard on Sahara models and optional on Sport models. Right-hand-drive versions are also available for fleet utility service. A Columbia Edition option package is also new for 2004.

Pros:
  • Cheap, fun to drive, classic styling, go-anywhere capability.
Cons:
  • Soft top a handful to manipulate, difficult ingress-egress, slow steering, bouncy suspension on the street.

I have owned cherokees, grand cherokees and my girlfriend owns a liberty and this is by far the most fun and versitle vehicle I have ever owned. You cant beat a convertable in the summer and the best four wheel drive system to get you through winter.

I recently moved to colorado and participate in a number of active sports. This vehicle has been the perfect match. I knew what I was getting into buying this, and frankly I expected a much cruder and unrefined vehicle. I have had numerous passengers comment on how nice the ride is compared to older jeeps. But who cares about that? Offroad is where this thing shines, wheter it be a technical 4x4 trail or the deep colorado snow, it handels it in stride. Built very solid, strong engine, can you say torque? Hasnt had a single mechanical problem- Im good with maintainace, but am not shy about flogging it on the trail.

I couldnt wait to go driving on the beach, in the sand, along the water. I have my dream car!

I love mine! Its a bit bouncy and conversing with a passenger at higher speeds can be tough, but its ability to move from paved roads ot off road without missing a beat more than make up for it. I dont find the soft top the "nail breaker" Edmund claims. I can take the top down or put it up in less than 5 minutes. The Jeep is without a doubt just plain fun to drive, especially topless. Ive read some info concerning poor handling on highways. I havent had this problem, but the jeep wasnt intented as a family car. Best vehicle purchase I have ever made.

  • Better than my 2000 Grand Cherokee - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

I know its the baby Jeep (with the 2.4), but for the kind of wheeling I do, its as good a compromise between getting there on the highway and then being in the mountains. My Jeep has helped to clean up from hurricanes while stationed in GTMO, to treking in the deserts of the middle east. Only got stuck once, in an orchard here in the states. I had the wrong tires to deal with the mud, heck the tractor almost got stuck as well! I traded my 2000 Grand Cherokee for this and I have never looked back! Will not trade it for love nor money! Not a speed demon on the road, but keeps up with traffic.

  • Great for what it does. - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

This is THE BEST offroad vehicle stock, period. I wish it had a bit of a lift and a little wider tires, but I can understand that lawyers are involved. But its a great platform to build on with stock lockers, Dana44 axles, beefy transfer case, etc. Make no mistake, this is built for offroad, so it wont ride like a minivan. Lots of the features are for offroad only. (For the guy who "broke" his lockers...never, never, never, never use the lockers on-road. Ever. The fact that you have to shift into 4Low and not driving faster than 10mph should be a clue they were intended for rock crawling, not grocery getting).

  • Me and my Rubi.... - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Ive had my silver/black Rubicon now for just two weeks, but so far the experience has been great. When comparing this to a 95 Wrangler Sport 4.0L that I owned, Ive noticed night and day differences in some areas. The soundproofing from road noise is much better! Interior comfort level is vastly better. The Sound System is HUGELY better (7 speaker system in the new one). The biggest difference, in a negative light, is that my new Rubicon is a Dog... Ive got the 4.0L Inline 6, with the 5 speed manual tranny, and its not quick by any means (my 95 was better). Not to mention the terrible gas mileage. On a positive note, Dual Tops are Great!

  • Good to go! - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

I only have bought this Jeep about a month ago but, I have owned a few Jeeps in my life. I love the improved ride, power, quietness and performance of this Wrangler Jeep. Quite an improvement over ones just a few years back imo. Parts are easy to get and the package works well for me as a towable vehicle behind my motorhome as well. If your going to buy this one at least get the limitted slip rear diff from the factory with the DANA 44 rear end. I plan on putting a cable locker up front and Ill be set for all but the worst stuff. I have already added $1500 in parts for off roading; bumpers, winch, and tow bar, and rock sliders were a must for my use. Loving it!

I have modded my Rubi, but even in stock form it had out perform a very modded "Sport." Go Rubi. it has better axles (Dana 44 front and rear) and a 4:1 T-case, and drives selectable diff locks. The best way to describe a Jeep is; When looking at what they are designed to do, nothing in the world can compare. When it comes to everything else, they leave a lot to be desired. They do not ride great and they are not roomy, but they are a convertible for the summer, 4wd for the winter and just a whole lot of fun to drive.
