This Year's Model Updates:

An AM/FM/CD stereo and a tilt steering wheel are now standard on all 2004 Jeep Wrangler models. A new aluminum wheel design is standard on Sahara models and optional on Sport models. Right-hand-drive versions are also available for fleet utility service. A Columbia Edition option package is also new for 2004.

Pros:
  • Cheap, fun to drive, classic styling, go-anywhere capability.
Cons:
  • Soft top a handful to manipulate, difficult ingress-egress, slow steering, bouncy suspension on the street.

  • A Blast To Drive - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

A rugged 4WD and almost a roadster in one! Handles great, and couldnt be more fun to drive. Other than some HVAC problems, its been very reliable. My last Jeep was an 86 CJ-7 and this is like driving a Lexus compared to the CJ.

  • Great fun, 4cyl grossly underpowered - 2004 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

The Wrangler SE is loads of fun to own and drive. However, the 4cyl motor is grossly underpowered. Lags very badly on the steep California hills with an empty cargo. Fuel mileage should be much better for a 4cyl. I average about 15.7 mpg with the top down and 17.9 with the top on.

  • Lots of fun, surprisingly practical. - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Downshift the 4 cylinder early for power, 3rd gear is good for 75 mph, dont be afraid to spin the engine up. It is a twin cam after all. Used thusly, the engine is plenty peppy. Expect 20 mpg town, 24 hwy. Five speed tranny is notchy and vague, a real antique. The later 6-speed is better. Ive got aftermarket sliding glass side curtains on the stock low cut doors. Much quieter and more convenient than zipper plastic door windows. The low cut doors make for a good arm rest (since a Wrangler has none). Get a center console for the same reason. Seats could use more lumbar for 400 mile days.

  • Crappy American car is VERY FUN - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

i have always hated american cars. especially those made by chrysler, but this jeep has been very fun for offroading purposes. it gets poor gas mileage but if you only use it for offroading it is great.

Great ride in the hills valleys and everywhere except freeways. Power could be increased with a little wider stance but over all the wrangler is the most agile responsive vehicle on the road.

  • First Wrangler, Unlimited is perfect! - 2004 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

I previously owned a KJ and put 266K miles on it. I purchased an LJ (Unlimited Wrangler) because I always wanted a Wrangler but it just wasnt practical until now. This Jeep is great off road and bearable on. I took this Jeep to Paragon off road park and could not believe what it could muster being stock with a longer wheelbase. This Jeep is perfect for business during the week and wheeling on the weekends!

  • Best one of the bunch - 2004 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

This is my third Jeep; 1999, 2002 and now a 2004. This is by far the best one of the bunch! It rides much better and the sound deadening improvements are huge! I cant wait to test its off road capabilities.

  • 3rd one is a charm - 2004 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

Ive had two other wranglers. This one is clearly the best of the best. I have had the chance to take it off road on several occations and it performed great. Im always getting compliments on it. It gets more attention than my friends Corvette Z06. The only complaint is the gas mileage. @15-18mpg with manual trans. However, I knew that going into it. Get one before they stop making them. A true collectors item.

  • Ruby my Jeep - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

New rear end unexpectedly @ 8000 miles. The new air lock broke while backing up a very small incline and one back wheel spun. Unable to unlock rear lock, towed to nearest dealer and warranty covered it. For a jeep built for off road, I was surprised by how little it took on road to break it. So far so good @ 9000 miles.

  • Great car, but spark knocks horribly - 2004 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

The Jeep wrangler is a great car, but both of them that Ive had spark knock and the dealership mechanics can never figure out whats wrong with it. It hinders the fun of driving it.
