This Year's Model Updates:

An AM/FM/CD stereo and a tilt steering wheel are now standard on all 2004 Jeep Wrangler models. A new aluminum wheel design is standard on Sahara models and optional on Sport models. Right-hand-drive versions are also available for fleet utility service. A Columbia Edition option package is also new for 2004.

Pros:
  • Cheap, fun to drive, classic styling, go-anywhere capability.
Cons:
  • Soft top a handful to manipulate, difficult ingress-egress, slow steering, bouncy suspension on the street.

  • Forget the other Wranglers - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

I always wanted one and finally did a month ago. Biggest reason for only getting a Wrangler now was that there was next to no room behind the back seat. Until the Unlimited came out, it made no sense for me to get rid off my reliable and fuel- economic little soft-top Tracker. The unlimited has lots of room, is much more comfortable than anyone says and the soft top is not that hard to handle, simply needs some time to get used to. Obviously you cant compare the handling of the soft top when youre used to pressing a button in your Sebring convert ... It pulls 3,500 pounds and has no trouble with my 1,800 pd boat trailer and affects fuel economy very little.

I have owned 18 jeeps from the CJ3 to Cherokees, Grand Cherokees and this is the best yet! I knew from past experience that a Wrangler is a Jeep as far as ride and design. Still I love the Rubi!! Auto transmission is the best yet. Gearing is super. It is the peppiest yet. "NOW THE BAD" My biggest complaint is the darn pinging. Jeep says thatÂ’s the way it is, live with it! And use 89 octane when the book says runs on 87. Got no help trying to fix this problem after 4 trips to 2 different dealerships.

Ill be honest. You gotta want a jeep to own a jeep. This is the funnest vehicle youll ever own. Its at home off road or at the mall. The newer jeeps ride a lot better that the older ones due to coil-over shocks in the front. Accessories galore! This is the one vehicle that you can truly personalize. My advice for jeep buying: Buy the full doors, the 6- cyl., oversized tires, and both hard and soft tops. These are all the "should-a-gots" that plague jeep buyers remorse. Mine averages 13/16 mpg on pavement and about 20mpg off- road! Jeeps are fun! Oh yeah- and insurance is CHEAP!

i have had no problems with the jeep not being reliable, and i have driven it on about 4 trips of 250 miles or more. the fuel economy of the vehicle is poor, about 10mpg on the highway and 11 in the city. however, i have put a 4inch lift and 33inch tires on the jeep. i would be perfectly comfortable if i were a little smaller, but i am a larger person. it has a strong frame, i was in one accident where a guy rearended me going about 25 or 30 mph. all the happened was a small bend in the bumper, and the front fenders were bent from being pushed into a ford f350.

What a Jeep! Took it off raod and WOW! Couldnt get it stuck if i tried. Crawled over rocks, ledges, did off camber runs. Just fantastic. Got mine with the dual tops and paid 23,500 after rebates. I have had offroad vehilces for over 20 years and this is the best bar none!

If you want to have FUN driving a vehicle with a relatively low cost, this is your vehicle! Forget all the luxuries, they dont really make a difference. This vehicle is RELIABLE, and can take a pounding, but with some XTRA care, they clean up beautifully! You will never be bored driving it!!!

  • Still the best 4x4 on the road - 2004 Jeep Wrangler
    By -

As a previous Jeep owner, I had an idea of what I was getting into, but after buying and driving my new 2004 Wrangler, I found that it was a whole new beast. The engine feels very beefy, lots of power. I opted for the 4-speed auto, which is IMHO the biggest enhancement of these new models. The interior is much quieter when driving at highway speed. If youre looking for a fun 4x4 convertible, this is your only option. If you need to haul, well, anything, this is not for you (very limited storage space).

  • Rubicon after two years..... - 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Still very impressed with my Jeep. I lifted 3" (Rubicon Express) and put all sorts of plates underneath. Other than that it is stock and so far has gone everywhere I wanted to go. I have been on several 4 rated trails and have never been stuck. The lockers are great! I have only had one small mechanical problem with the front locker and the dealer fixed it in one day.
