Overview & Reviews
Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.
- Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
- Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

Its far better than I suspected - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
By Rich - July 2 - 11:50 pmI just passed the 60,000 mile mark on my 02 X-Type 3.0 with five-speed manual. The car has about all the options, including GPS NAV and the CD changer. I recently had one maintenance problem with the car and that was the coolant thermostat intermittably stuck at about 58,000 miles. It fully convered on Jags Special Edition warranty. No charge to me. Other than that, the cars been trouble free.

By peter rohn - May 27 - 2:00 amOnly reasons I bought this car was 5 speed manual, 4 wheel drive, back seats go down,30mls per gallon on hwy.6.6secs 0-60.Car looks good and handles great also.Snowboards, skis, dog, hockey equipment goes in back with seats down.Car is great in the snow. The car is at home at the soccer field, grocery store, ski trip to the snowy mountains, fun to drive, but so refined to visit a client or take your significant other to the best shows and restaurants in town.Navigation touch screen a must.Problems: fuel pump went they fixed right away , Front driver seat rocks a little. Otherwise very happy.

Buy this car. - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
By jag x-type - April 26 - 10:00 amFast, furious and safe. The car is incredibly smooth and takes turns outstandingly. I had to make a very quick stop from 40 mph to zero and the car hugged the road and kept its balance. Tight back seat, but can get four sets of golf clubs in the trunk.

Excellent experience overall - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
By ckshep - April 3 - 10:00 amIve owned my 2002 over a year now. Overall its been excellent, improving with age, and very solid on the road. A few minor issues that were cleared up in no time at the dealer, just trivial things as with any new car. Car is wonderful to drive, with the 5 spd manual and sport package, has plenty of power for everyday use and feels very solid. Wonderful for long distance trips. Gas mileage has gotten way better over time, from the low 20s to the high 20s by now, almost 30. The upgraded audio package is great. Overall ownership has been wonderful.

Jaguar x-type initial thoughts - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
By DAC17 - April 1 - 8:00 amHad the car for about a month. No problems with it. Had at least 10 people (unasked) tell me how much they loved the looks of the car. The interior is typical Brit; gorgeous and aromatic! Great lease deals going on; interest rates about 1.6%, and good discounts. Early reviews in Edmunds probably didnt help residuals (not that Jags are very good residual-wise anyway)

Beautiful and an excellent value - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
By Minimac - March 10 - 5:10 pmI purchased this car used from the local Jaguar dealer with the 6 year 100,000 mile certified warranty, which made this car an incredible value. It was $2,000 - $3,000 less then most new American sedans that had no features. This is a beautiful automobile. The all wheel drive is worth every penny, including the reduction in gas mileage. The 5 speed automatic is perfectly matched for the 2.5 litre engine. More horsepower would be a plus, but mid-range acceleration is still darned impressive considering this engines displacement. Great car for the money! As good as any European sedan at a lower price, better than most others.

Car shakes and wont accelerate over 40 - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
By alex sholom - February 10 - 8:10 pmI have a jaguar X type 2.5 and when i would accelerate the car would shake and slow down as if running out of fuel. I changed the fuel filter but that didnt solve it even though the fuel filter was almost clogged. I tried changing sensors and thought it was the transmission but the reason was when i was washing the engine water got into the spark plugs and was blocking off the spark. I blew out all the water with an air compressor then put in the spark plugs and it works like a charm ever since. hopefully this can be helpful to somebody.
