  • Not what I expected - 2003 Honda Odyssey

I purchased my 2003 Honda Odyssey as a certified used car and thank GOD it came with an extended warranty. I have been experiencing various transmission issues. When taken to the dealer they claim not to be able to find any issue. This week as I was on my way to work the car popped out of gear, the engine revved wildly, the check engine light and traction control lights came on and stayed on. Took it to the dealer and at 64957 miles the transmission is dead. Chrysler took a beating over transmission failures on their minivans. Its time Honda acknowledges that this design has some serious issues. I used to consider myself a loyal Honda owner. No MORE.

Bought new with DVD system (nav and DVD not possible together on this version). Powerful van and rides smooth today like it did when we bought it. Lots of space. Had 2 recalls which were fixed. Minor annoyances with engine check light coming on at times. Left sliding door is now malfunctioning and needs to be fixed. When braking hard, there is sometimes a clunking noise at the back that sounds like ABS. Fuel economy is avg at 20 mpg combined. Overall - satisfied.

  • Wow, what great Van! - 2003 Honda Odyssey

It was a tough decision - were a Honda family but after driving the Odyssey the decision became easier. We sold our 1988 Honda Accord and wanted more room - the Odyssey fit the bill. We drove the Pilot but found more room in the Odyssey. No complaints - it is wonderful!

Have owned since new. Great family vehicle. Better usable space than a Tahoe or Expedition. Very few problems and extremely low maintenance costs for first 128k miles. Transmission then rebuilt at 128k for $3400 doesnt bother me since Im planning on keeping the Ody for another 125k miles.

  • New Honda Owner & Loving It - 2003 Honda Odyssey

Research, research, research.... If you do the research that you need to do before you buy a mini-van, you will buy Honda. After you have looked at crash- test ratings, Consumer Guide, Consumer Reports, etc., go look at new prices, and compare those prices to comparably equipped one- and two-year old models. I would never have believed depreciation rates of $200-$250 PER WEEK if I had not seen it with my own four eyes. Go shop it yourself!!!! I cannot tell you which option I like the best. Smooth as glass, with plenty of power.

Everything works well. All controls are in the right place. You do not even have to read the owners manual except to find the spare tire.

The van definitely drives like a van, but that is ok, because that is what it is. After you understand all of the dos and donts of when and why you are pushing the buttons this thing is really cool. Road noise is a lot more pronouced than say a Four door sedan. Moving people and cargo is the name of the game. We looked at all of the SUVs from 30 thou to 60 thou and NONE had the versitily that this van has. Enough said.

  • Heaven sent - 2003 Honda Odyssey

I love the Honda Odyssey. It drives like a dream. Its very quiet and has a lot of pick up and go power. The children have lots of room to spread out.The high quality leather makes for a very comfortable ride. In the winter time seat warmers! The one thing I dislike the most is the back door is hard to close. I wish it had a power door, just push a button and your there.
