Overview & Reviews
The Odyssey gains an intermittent rear window wiper this year, as well as an auto up-and-down driver-side window.
- Excellent crash test scores, huge interior, fold-flat third-row seat, powerful V6, optional navigation and entertainment system.
- Quality of some interior materials could be better, high demand limits negotiating possibilities.

Transmission is prone to failure at 90K - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Andrew - September 4 - 9:19 pmThe 2003 purchased brand new along with a service plan for 3 years. Rides great good for long trips with the family. Transmission had a recall service done to it back in 2003 for slipping gears 2nd and 3rd. All fine till it hit 92,000 transmission totally failed and had to split the cost with Honda for a $4,000 transmission. I will not buy another Honda for this reason. Nissan Altima looks good to me.

Will buy a Toyota next time - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By FL Honda owner - September 3 - 8:27 pmBought my 2003 Odyssey 11/03.Have had to bring in to be serviced by Honda several times for same problems. Problem dx ERG valve? Got stuck several times. Couldnt get gear shift to move. Cup holders in center where driver sits replaced several times (very poor design). Brakes replaced several times for noise. Resonator and exhaust pipe replaced at 50,000 miles despite car in Florida weather, in a garage not near seawater. Noisy ride. Interior door handles peeling. Front drivers seat has squeaked since new despite numerous trips to Honda. Dont think Honda knows how to repair its own vehicles. Bought new has 79,000 miles on it.

Great but not perfect - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By RichL - August 20 - 2:00 amThis van puts both our 95 & 98 Grand Caravans to shame. The seat heaters should turn off with key. Interior noise is only major complaint. This car should be much quieter. Have 3 kids, so a split folding rear seat would be appreciated (Like upcoming 04 Sienna). Plenty of power and cornering ability. At this price, full roof rack, fog lamps, auto headlamps, power antenna, hood struts, should be standard. Would buy another one.

We vowed wed never get a minivan....... - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By NHMom - August 10 - 10:00 amThis is our second Honda Odyssey, and we like this one better than the first! The built in DVD is great, especially with the wireless headphones, worth the extra $$ The six cylinder VTEC has great power and the transmission is much smoother than our first one. We vowed never to get a minivan, but this blows doors off our Jeep Grand Cherokee that we tried to stuff 2 kids and dog into.

Great if you can afford a new tranny - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By Liz K. - August 2 - 9:33 amWe have only had ours for a year and a half. It has 95,000 and a DEAD transmission. Called American Honda and they told us ours has been serviced under the warranty in Feb 05. Well whatever they did only lasted 3 1/2 years and now we have a $4000+ bill for a new transmission and an Electronic Computer Unit. They told us take it to your local Honda dealer, let them diagnose and they will tell us if they can help cover any charges. Most likely if they cant help us it will be gone. We cant risk needing a new transmission every 3 1/2 years. If it werent for safety ratings Id have an American made van with a cheaper tag for parts and better service

Great Car - 2003 Honda Odyssey
By john - July 19 - 10:49 pmI have had this vehicle since it was new. I now have 65K miles on it and it is excellent. Still runs like new. No major repairs, only two repair and one adjustment and both were covered under warranty. The maintenance cost on the vehicle is really low, especially compared to a my old Dodge mini-van.
