This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has added a new trim level for 2002, the SE. The Accord SE is based on the LX four-cylinder coupe or sedan trim level with an automatic transmission. Features setting the SE apart from LX models include an upgraded audio system, a driver seat power height adjustment, interior wood grain trim, antilock brakes, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Pros:
  • Great build quality, spacious interior, peppy yet clean engines, comfortable seats, excellent resale value, reputation for bulletproof reliability.
Cons:
  • Everybody drives one, bland personality, stiff highway ride.

This is my second Honda, first one was a 1990 automatic and gave it to my friend with 235,000 (original trans). Should have kept it. But the 02 Accord, my first trans went out at 88k, second 130k, and were getting ready for #3. Will trade before #3 comes. Has 145k. Its a shame, other than routine maintenance (other than a crankshaft seal fix which was no big deal) everything else was OK. SRS light stays on because of fault drivers side seat belt sensor. They are warrantied for life but need a $100 diagnostic fee first. Honda did replace my first trans for nothing, 2nd one I paid $600 total. I know about cars and do change the tranny fluid. I knew I should have got the 5 speed.

  • Great so far - 2002 Honda Accord

Did alot of research on this car before buying. Originally wanted a 5 spd 4 cylinder coupe but they were very scarce so I was concerned about resale. So far, everything works great and the car is a blast to drive. Also considered the Acura CL but decided the price range was too high for a coupe. Getting 23 miles around town and 27-79 on highway. This car has great, precise steering and a tight ride. My wifes 99 Maxima feels mushy after driving the Honda. Highly recommend this car.

The Accord is a good solid drive. For the price it _cant_ be beat. Almost everything you could want is in it.

  • ITS A GOOD CAR, BUT NOT A GREAT CAR - 2002 Honda Accord

Excellent gas mileage, decent sound system, relatively comfortable interior.A bit noisy on the interstate.OUR DARK BLUE PAINT HAS A NUMBER OF DEFECTS OR MISSES. Buy silver. One week out of the showroom, replaced powersteering pump. At 4000 miles winshield scarred by faulty wipers, no recourse at agency, 13000 miles, engine tappets chattering loudly.

  • I am disappointed - 2002 Honda Accord

The car idles rough and they said these idle rough and that other people have complained, the engine is very loud on take off after sitting for several hours and they said that is the way these are and other people have complained they are saying it is a valve noise. It rides very bumpy over even smooth roads. Steering at 65 is awful it seems like you are constantly fighting to keep the car straight I don! t know if it is the aerodynamics or what. I have always heard what great cars these are and I am trying to figure out why everybody is so satisfied with these.

  • UH-OH TRANNY PROBS :-( - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I HAVE HAD THIS CAR 2 1/2 YEARS.ON VACTION IN JULY THE TRANSMISION STARTED SLIPPING AT HWY SPEEDS AND OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK STARTED TO SLIP WHILE SHIFTING.THE TRANSMISION WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRENTY WITH A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISION.I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER I WAS GETTING A NEW TRANS AND THAT HONDA NEVER USES REMANUFACTURED UNITS.WHEN I GOT THE PAPER WORK IT SAID REMANUFACTURED.WHEN I ASKED HIM HE SAID HE NEVER TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH MY WIFE AND SON HERD HIM SAY IT.BUT THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT BECAUSE ITS UNDER WARRENTY.THIS CAR HAS ONLY 18,000 MILES ON IT.ITS BEEN A WEEK WITH THE NEW TRANS SO FAR SO GOOD.

  • Boring and Faithful - 2002 Honda Accord

Bought the car new. No problems with anything but brake pads, which it eats like candy. No trans problems because I drain and fill the trans every 15,000 miles. I have 127,000 miles of rush hour freeway driving on it. Unfortunately, this is the most boring car I have ever owned. It has all the personality of a refrigerator. In fact this car is only an appliance.

  • Another transmission - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I had to have the transmission replaced at 93k miles I was lucky that I had the extended warranty. The dealership replaced it with one that had 50k on it now 30k later I have to put another transmission in it and replace the ABS modulator and my TCS comes on, on when I am on the hi-way. This is just crazy, I love my Hondas I have had and I am sad to say I will be getting rid of this one soon.

  • Better luck next time... - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

Honda, reliable, cant go wrong, right? Just a few months after purchase at about 60,000 miles I was informed they needed to replace the transmission. Ok, i had also purchase an extended warranty so i didnt pay anything out of pocket. Then I started seeing my ABS and TCS lights come on in the morning when Id start my car, by the afternoon on the drive home they went away. Dealership used their computer diagnostic and said nothing was wrong so i ignored it too. Well now over 100,000 the lights dont go out and they tell me its a $1,200 job to replace the ABS modulator... Im so happy, no not really.
