This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has added a new trim level for 2002, the SE. The Accord SE is based on the LX four-cylinder coupe or sedan trim level with an automatic transmission. Features setting the SE apart from LX models include an upgraded audio system, a driver seat power height adjustment, interior wood grain trim, antilock brakes, remote keyless entry and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Pros:
  • Great build quality, spacious interior, peppy yet clean engines, comfortable seats, excellent resale value, reputation for bulletproof reliability.
Cons:
  • Everybody drives one, bland personality, stiff highway ride.

Seats are harder than previous vehicle (Chevy Impala). Handling is excellent

This car is a delite to drive. As you can see by the miles, I really drive it. More support on the drivers seat and it would be perfect.

  • Some problems here - 2002 Honda Accord

I have always driven Honda Accords. A new one every 3 years or so since 1978. Well, This 2001 is no Accord I ever knew. After 3 months, a tap-tap- tap noise under load. found it when a bolt came out from under the dash- hope nothing too important. excessive windnoise- rain on the door trim panels is awfully loud- thin metal everywhere. Going over warning ripples the entire car resonates for about 15 seconds. Honda has taken Monocoque (unitbody)Construction past its useful limits. Paint flaws visible after paint curing. Seems like they took the insight and put a bigger body on it- cheap and too light. My Last Honda- period.

  • Still a top choice - 2002 Honda Accord

I have close to 80k miles on this car and it hasnt shown any sign of age. With the 5-speed,4cyl, I average around 33-35 mpg and have several times bumped 600 miles on a tank of gas. This car is super-roomy and drives well with a full load. Consumer Reports honestly believes that the LX-V6 is a better choice than the EX-4cyl. I couldnt disagree more. Why give up a keyless remote, moonroof, alloy wheels and two extra speakers just for a little extra zip and a little worse gas mileage?

  • Squeaks and rattles - 2002 Honda Accord

2.5 year old EX-L with 29000 miles. The good: love the engine – doesn’t make a lot of power but riding single or with one passenger you don’t really notice. Really nice 5-speed transmission. The bad: too many squeaks and rattles. The dealer has been cooperative, but a good dealer can’t make up for a poorly put together interior. Gas mileage of 16/23. Front rotors warped at 15,000 miles. Seats feel uncomfortable on long rides and the low beam headlights are a joke. Overall, this could have been a really nice car, but falls short because of poor quality control. After 2.5 years of trying I’ve decided to sell it and buy something else

I traded a 2000 Golf for this 2002 Accord after the Golf required major engine work at 12,000 miles. The 4-cylinder LEV engine could use a little more low-end grunt, but its smooth and quiet. Im only getting 22 MPG, mostly around town - maybe itll improve with age. The car seems extremely well built and is great on trips - I feel like Im driving a luxury car. Its roomy and comfortable for 4 adults, too. Got a great deal from Landmark Honda, with minimal aggravation. The Honda is smooth, quiet and pleasant - it might be a middle-aged persons car lacking in verve, but I feel like itll never let me down.

  • 14 year owner shooting for 250000 miles - 2002 Honda Accord

Love my car===despite transmission replacement at 83g which after some discussion cost me 1100 instead of the full quoted cost of 2200. Brake rotors are basically a routine issue due to warping. This in turn quickly causes front end issues if not addressed as soon as you notice wheels shaking when you brake over 50 mph. I still enjoy driving it after 173G miles and will likely keep it till 250g if the transmission doesnt crap out again. I feel the rotor warping issue has been handled terribly by Honda. At very least they should turn the rotors at no cost for lifetime owners!

  • Nice Car...Not crazy about Automatic(V6) - 2002 Honda Accord

Purchased this car slightly used w/ 5k miles, honda certified. Have had small issues, brake rotors, door sticking, several squeaks/rattles which surprised me given Honda rep. Traded in Audi A4, completely unreliable, for Honda quality. Unimpressed w/ auto. trans performance (V6) overall, slow to downshift, very abrupt, sometimes bucking at low speeds. Hopefully it will be reliable overall...

  • Life in an Accord - 2002 Honda Accord

Verify basic maintenance has been maintained and this car will last! The only issue Ive ever had is having the transmission replaced at 20k miles. I have owned four Accords. This is now a hand me down for my son as I have a newer model. Drive it, maintain it and it will last forever!

  • Good car - 2002 Honda Accord

Ive had the car for 6 months now but I still cannot find fav position. The seat height adjustment is practically useless for me - Im used to much lower seats. 5th speed is a little too far to reach. Gas pedal has a half inch of dead travel, which bothers me a lot whereas all others seem unimpressed by this problem. Seats are rather uncomfortable for longer trips and/or aggressive driving. Michelins lose grip in rain/on wet surfaces. They do not hydroplane, though. Sometimes I hear a window rattling sound but technitians could not find the reason for that. Otherwise an excellent choice for a commuter car.
