Overview & Reviews
This long overdue redesign of the S90 counts several firsts to its credit: first with a transverse inline six, first with fully integrated GSM phone, first to carry an environmental specification (Europe only at introduction) and the S80 boasts the world's smallest manual transmission.
- Safety. Comfort. Performance of the S80 T6. Interesting styling.

High Maintenance - 1999 Volvo S80
By William North - December 15 - 6:46 amVolvo T6 is generally a great car, but... The maintenance required, frequency of failures, and quality (and high price) of parts means I would never have bought it "if I had known." Examples: replaced the computer chip regulating gas flow 3 times (at $600 parts plus labor), replaced the fuel pump twice, same prices.

Wake Up People! - 1999 Volvo S80
By love2golf - November 28 - 10:00 amIve read through so many of the comments here an I really have something to say! First of all, the S80 T6 is just unbeatable for the price. It tears apart everything in it class, not to mention.... out runs them all too. So many people here complaining and whining about problems. GET YOUR SOFTWARE UPGRADED! Its free from Volvo... what more do you want. It fixes every know issue with this car. Without a multiplex system, which this car has, it wouldnt be possible. After the upgrade it will be more reliable for life over any car out there. Do some research people instead of whining so much. You have an amazing vehicle. I love mine!

My best car ever! - 1999 Volvo S80
By autotech - November 2 - 2:00 amIve owned several vehicles in the past and no vehicle has ever been anywhere near as enjoyable as my 1999 Volvo S80 T6. I have absolutely no complaints with this car at all. The car did have one repair right after I bought it and of course it was covered by the warranty. They also updated the cars computer software free of charge. The software upgrade takes care of just about every issue with this car. I am nearing the 80,000 mile mark on my S80 and love the car more and more. Just try an S80 T6. Youll be happily amazed!

Great Car - 1999 Volvo S80
By Beck - November 2 - 2:00 amPurchased as recertified in 10/01. Awesome car! I guess any problems with this model were fixed by previous owner. Sounds like the first buyers got screwed big time. Anyway, 13k miles later (now at 38k), not a problem since day 1. Incredible comfort, reliability, acceleration is something else. To sum it up, this car is power and luxury. Anyone driving with me is stunned by the performance and comfort. I hope I never need to know how it is safety wise.

buyer beware - 1999 Volvo S80
By rickyd - October 16 - 10:00 amI bought the car new and have had problems since it was 3 months old. Ball joints, 3 new computers, side lights fell out 3 times, check engine light always on, leaking valves, vibrating speakers, tires wear faster than any car ive owned before, etc etc. When it runs its great but it is always in the shop. Thank goodness for the extended warranty though i am 2000 miles from it expiring so the car goes. Cant afford to keep it.

Just Sold it After 112,000 Great Miles! - 1999 Volvo S80
By Art_Carbine - October 10 - 2:00 amDont believe any bad reviews on the T6. Up until this past month I had a 1999 S80 T6 since new with virtually no trouble at all. The car does need a software upgrade which Volvo does for free. The car only needs the upgrade once and never again. The reliablity on the car is better than any car Ive owned. Before owning the T6, I had owned four BMWs over the years. The BMWs are way too high for maintenance, not nearly as fun to drive, and nowhere near as reliable. I really regret selling the T6. I bought a new Lexus and although it is a nice car, its just not exciting like my T6 was. I never should have changed to the Lexus. I miss my T6!

Love the car...some concerns - 1999 Volvo S80
By Rambis - September 20 - 2:00 amBought still under warranty. Replaced MANY sensors. MANY new software downloads seemed to fix most of the electronic problems. MAJOR oil leak under the engine. Replaced drivers side window. Motor broke and window cracked inside the door. Replaced throttle assembly. When all is well this car is AWESOME! FAST! Great accelleration! Im 66" and this car has tons of room. More room than an LHS! Very comfortable car. Love the style in and out. Very solid car. Feel extremely safe. Terrible sounds syst. Might trade. Not confident with THIS car. Looking at a 1996 Lexus LS 400. Ill buy again but when 01 or 02 come down in price.

Just Kill Me Now! - 1999 Volvo S80
By Toni Musulin - September 18 - 10:00 amI have NEVER been so in love with a car in my life, until the warranty ended! I have owned this car for 2 yrs 4 mos and have had about $5k+ in warranty work done. I have had this car towed 3 times in 2 months, twice the dealership couldnt find the problem. The third time, just 2 weeks after the warranty expired EVERYTHING started going at once. Total brake failure, transmission speed sensor, ABS, power steering, YOU NAME IT! I tried to talk with the warranty company to see if they could help since my mileage is so low, only 64K, they were very rude, wouldnt even allow me to speak with a supervisor, and offered NO HELP! Volvo No America did offer some help, but not enough in my opinion

a great car - 1999 Volvo S80
By sfiehrer - September 15 - 2:00 amThis car has been trouble free and fun to drive for the past 4+ years. It is my 3rd Volvo over the past 14 years (had a 240 and a 740) and I intend to stay with Volvo as long as they make great cars with innovative safety features. The styling is sporty too! The only repairs I have had so far are new tires.

Just shoot it - 1999 Volvo S80
By Kjo - August 22 - 2:00 amI bought this car because of the impeccable safety record in August 2002 and have had nothing but PROBLEMS since it left the dealership: Door locks and tail lights @ 35K miles; A brand new transmission at 36K miles; An ABS Sensor at 45K miles; Power Steering Lines @ 47K miles; and front suspension replaced at less than 54K miles. Fortuneately all this was under the extended warranty. Learned recently that my 40k car is only worth about 11K. Im not waiting for the extended warranty to expire next May. I am getting rid of this car NOW.
