This Year's Model Updates:

This long overdue redesign of the S90 counts several firsts to its credit: first with a transverse inline six, first with fully integrated GSM phone, first to carry an environmental specification (Europe only at introduction) and the S80 boasts the world's smallest manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Safety. Comfort. Performance of the S80 T6. Interesting styling.
Cons:
  • No wagon available - yet.

  • Great Car, Bought another one! - 1999 Volvo S80

I owned this vehicle for 30 months, putting 45k miles on it. It performed flawlessly. There was a recall on the ball joint assembly, which wasnt broken, but replaced anyway. My brother bought the car and is very happy with it. I bought a new 2002 S80 with updated tires (Pirelli)

  • Great Car/ - 1999 Volvo S80

I had been looking at an E320. I feel this car has all the features and more compared to the E320 and 5 series BMW. Very Very happy with great, ultra quiet and power for the interstates.

The car has many nice feature. I wish they had thought of illuminating the steering wheel controls on the 1999 model. Also a trunk release inside of the car would be helpful.

  • Worth More Than the Sticker Price! - 1999 Volvo S80

Wow! What a great car this has been! Our first Volvo and definately not our last. We love this car! The performance is simply incredible. Its such a comfortable car as well. The reliability is top notch. We have owned several boring BMWs but well never go back. The S80 T6 is such a joy! Volvo gives you so much in this car for the price. This car stickers for under $50,000. For all the comparisons we did, we really feel this car should have been priced well over $60,000. No dissapointments at all!

  • Very happy after 9 years - 1999 Volvo S80

This car is a good example why one should not get too wrapped up in reviews. After 9 years I can say this car still is a dream to drive. I love taking it on country roads where the handling is amazing. I have also driven a Mercedes E320 on the same road and while the E320 has more power, it does not handle turns as well and does not come close in comfort.

  • Highest Maintenance Car Ive Ever Had - 1999 Volvo S80
    By -

I bought this car 1 year ago with 47k miles on it. I have replaced 1 headlight, 4 tail lights, and 1 side turn light. The side light fell out of its socket, bizarre. I learned how to reset the service light because it comes on so often for no reason. Zero AM reception. Replaced a center speaker cover that fell apart. Jiffy lube refuses to change my oil so I have to go to the dealer. Last week a metal piece to my sunroof fell and hit my wife on the head. A plastic piece below the bumper fell off and Im afraid to ask how much. The glove compartment squeaks. Other than that it drives nice and feels luxurious.

  • Paint it yellow and call it a lemon - 1999 Volvo S80

I was so excited when I first purchased my new Volvo. Even though it was a bit pricey, I was looking forward to getting 300,000 miles out of it. My first clue should have been when a position light message came on when I was driving it home from the dealer my first day. I have had multiple problems since that day. Under warranty the rings had to be replaced with <20,000 miles on it. I have spent thousands of $$ to try to figure out why my check engine light stays on. Over $4000 to have it fixed and 50 miles later the light came on again. Now my emissions light keeps coming on. 3 oxygen sensors later, it still comes on. Plan to put it in gear, run it off the mountain and collect the ins.

  • For under $50,000, nothing comes close! - 1999 Volvo S80
    By -

I first bought my S80 T6 after riding in a friends. Actually he has the 2.9 (non-turbo) and I wound up buying the T6. We both love our cars! Hes had no trouble with his at all! At about the 10,000 mile mark I had an emmision system light come on my car. The dealer loaded in the new software which Volvo released (free of charge) and Ive never had another problem with my S80. I now have about 75,000 miles on my car and it runs fantastic! The seats are an 11 out of 10. Without a doubt, the best seats Ive ever experienced in any car. The S80 T6 is really a wonderful choice! For under $50,000, nothing even comes close!

Ive had few problems that were not covered by warranty. Transmission has had a rough shift and is sluggish. 2000 Download from Volvo fixes much of this.

  • Sooooo disappointed in Volvo - 1999 Volvo S80
    By -

Along with making a monthly car payment to Volvo Finance, we also make a montly payment to the Volvo Service Center. This has been the most disappointing car weve owned. In one year, the car has required repairs on an average of every six weeks. Problems range from electronic sensors going bad to shocks blowing out. After finding out two days ago that there is now an oil leak, we have had enough. BMW, Lexus and Acura will be seeing us this week. In fact, I will be trading in the car, since I cant sell it in good conscience.
