This Year's Model Updates:

This long overdue redesign of the S90 counts several firsts to its credit: first with a transverse inline six, first with fully integrated GSM phone, first to carry an environmental specification (Europe only at introduction) and the S80 boasts the world's smallest manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Safety. Comfort. Performance of the S80 T6. Interesting styling.
Cons:
  • No wagon available - yet.

I love my car. It has been very reliable. I especially like the Volvo dealers I have dealt with.

  • Good Choice for Luxury - 1999 Volvo S80

I am a salesman and Im always on the road. Ive owned several cars over the years and this is my favorite. I now have over 60,000 miles on my car (mostly highway driven) and it has been great. No problems to complain about at all. It gets great mileage and is very reliable. Its also so comfortable and a dream to drive on long trips. I would by this car again without a second thought. For under $50,000 its a great choice.

  • Last Volvo Ill Buy - 1999 Volvo S80

At first we loved the car. Over time it became apparent that the quality of the vehicle was lacking ranging from cosmetic to mechanical. The body dents easily from anything, small minor accessories stop working or just break, and we always seem to spend thousands a year on maintenance. We also own a 96 850 Turbo and do not experience any of the consistent problems with it. The information center stopped scrolling one item at a time. The dealership said it was not their problem to fix since no recall...1yr after purchase. I wont buy from the dealer even if we decided on another Volvo.

  • Not Worth the $$$$ - 1999 Volvo S80

After way too many problems (literally, too many to list) I traded in my S80 T6 for a Passat. After getting over the intial shock of trade in value - $30,000 less than sticker price (the car was loaded to the hilt and had 56,000 miles, I knew that I didnt have a choice. With my warranty up and still having massive problems, I had to get rid of it. My new Passat has everything that the Volvo had except the Nav system and horsepower and the best part - it cost me half the price! I love my new car!

  • Huge Repair Costs - 1999 Volvo S80

I really enjoyed the car up until the 60k mile mark. The car slowly began to fall apart. I seemed to have had a $2K+ problem every few months. Every time I thought nothing else could go wrong, it did. I really figured the car was practically new from all the dealer repair visits. Lastly, after the transmission went (repairs exceeding $12k in a 3yr period) it was time to call it quits.

  • The T6.... The Best Choice! - 1999 Volvo S80
    By -

Ive read some reviews here from people complaining. I cant understand it! I drive a lot and I now have about 78,000 miles on my T6. If I remember correctly I only had a recall done way back after I bought it. Ive done regular maintenance (very low cost) but I just dont remember having any repairs performed. I cant speak for anyone else, but I would have to say this car is extremely reliable. The only complaint I can find (and really not that bad) is the range on the transmitters. Theyre really not too bad but I owned a Lexus and it had a little better range. Overall, in the $50,000 range theres no other car even close. Very Satisfied!

  • Do not buy this car - 1999 Volvo S80

I had a 93 850 and loved it. Very few problems. Bought this car as a "Volvo Certified" used car, have had nothing but problems. Has been in the shop regularly, i.e., almost monthly. Have had bushings replaced, engine mounts, electronic throttle module (not covered by the extended warranty), warning lights going off all of the time, it makes an annoying squeek when you release the brakes, but dealer can not find anything wrong. I am not waiting for extended warranty to run out. Am getting rid of ASAP. Highly disappointed in this flagship car.

  • Its getting traded in!! - 1999 Volvo S80

What can I say this thing is like a boat...happy day when you get it and even happier when you sell it! Get this junker out of my life....Im getting killed on the resale and Im thrilled! Im just so sick of the redundant issues and poor quality. Volvo, my Grandpa would be ashamed of you...he owned nothing but Volvos his whole life! Only two good things to say 1. Never left me stranded 2.Fun to drive when running right (so not too often)! IM FREE...IM FREE!!!!!

  • Disappointment - 1999 Volvo S80
    By -

Poor reliability, expensive electronics failures some plastic parts dont stand UV, therefore disintegrate, had to replace sway bars, rubber washers under the McPherson, dashbord not user frienfly, on and on and on.

  • no more - 1999 Volvo S80

car is great when running. but the electronics suck big time. theyve replaced more sensors than exist in any other car i think. dealership is terrible. cant wait for lease to end. too bad though, because when the car is running right - its a pleasure to drive
