Overview & Reviews
This all-new coupe is based on the Camry platform. Designed jointly by the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan and the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Solara is targeted at consumers who want the style of a sports car but the room and comfort of a larger, more practical vehicle.
- The Accord Coupe is slightly quicker and has a one-year head start in market share.

99 SLE - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By CiVOL Engineer - August 15 - 10:00 amI have had the car for about 2 weeks and I like it more each time I get to drive it (it is my wifes to drive). We were really only looking at 99-01 Accord EX-VL cars until I noticed this on a local lot (certified). One drive made me forget about the Hondas. Smoother ride, better leather, and better styling than the Accord.

Love my car! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Michigan - July 18 - 2:20 pmI bought my car new and do not plan on selling it for a few more years yet. I drive a lot and a comfortable drive is important to me. I get this comfortable ride in my Solara. I love to drive with the sun roof open! It is very reliable with only a few minor problems. 1. Tires need replacement every 2 yrs. 2. The air bag light keeps coming on. Plug under the front seat that keeps coming loose. The dealer would not show me the plug so I will have to look for it myself. When someone rides in the back, they will touch it with their feet and the light will come on. 3. I replaced the struts, they were expensive, but that brought that smooth ride I love so much back again.

Beyond expectations! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Loyal SLE-V6 lady - June 9 - 9:20 amI have had a hard time deciding to pass this car to my son and buy a new one. I have a lot of highway miles and believe me that with 100% on time proper maintenance - this car can last a lifetime. No leaks, the only problem is that the paint and sealant is not thick enough. Can easily chip and there are two special body "mysteries" about a dime size that turned up after the warranty ran out. However, repairable.

Great car with lots of potential - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By toy4x4boy - May 23 - 10:03 amBought my 1999 SE V6 5-speed used with 53,000 miles, now have 80,000. Besides the clutch that recently wore out, have had no problems. I have lowered the car and added 18s and this thing handles awesome now and the ride is way better than the floaty stock ride. Car has great power, never feels lacking, plenty of passing power. Fuel economy is not as good as I hoped though, lucky if I can break 27 mpg on the highway, I would think 30 mpg should be achievable with a 3.0 V6. Quailty is outstanding, interior materials are top rate mostly. Seats are very comfortable. Vehicles like this make you wonder why anyone would buy a new car, great value here.

Finally I found my car. - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By RnR - May 10 - 2:43 pmI bought my 99 Solara with 97,000 miles on it in February 07, and I made my best vehicle purchase ever. This car is such a solid, well built, stylish, dream of a car that I cant believe its almost 9 years old. Sometimes I just go places to drive it. Yes, I replaced the front struts, and then the strut plates. I put a Pioneer C.D. player (the stock one was broken) in the car. I also put a cold air intake on it to improve mpg. Big difference on trips, not so noticable in town. I also have a Tacoma, and Toyota totally rocks! I totally love my 99 Solara! Toyotas are the best value!

Excellent eye catching car! - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By blr1620 - March 12 - 8:43 pmI have owned my toyota solara sle since september of 2004. I love this car. Fun to drive. eye catcher, everyone asks to see inside of it. Lots of room in the main part of the car and lots of room in the trunk. The only maintenance issue I had was egr valve gaskets, cheap and easy fix. I drove the car from oregon to arizona straight there only stops for gas. No problems.

Smooth, Sporty Ride - 1999 Toyota Camry Solara
By Tif - January 19 - 10:00 amIts a smooth, sporty ride. Nice and quiet on the inside, and I travel bumpy roads at times. Absolutely no road noise, unlike the 2-door Honda Accord I test drove before buying the Solara. The V6 is peppy as well as fuel efficent. The 6 speaker JBL sound system is great, particularly when listening to CDs. Well worth the $$ spent for the "preowned" edition. (if you are lucky enough to find one!) New was a little out of my price range. The leather seats give it a luxurious feel.
