  • Reliable transportation - 2001 Toyota Corolla

This car is a very reliable economy car. That being said, the economy part should speak for itself in terms of interior room, comfort, etc. Short on inside space and features, but fairly easy to customize or add to. Small but fairly peppy 1.8L engine gets me an average of 34 mpg, and as high as 41. Excellent turning radius, and very good at maneuvering in heavy traffic, as well as very good field of view. Perfect for a small commuter car. Excellent for students, as its fairly inexpensive to repair in most cases (for a foreign vehicle). Only complaint is that it has a problem with oil consumption.

Excellent, faithful and true. No repairs or maintenance problems. Good gas mileage. Great car for around town and little small for a family of five. Exactly what I expect from a Toyota: faithful and long lasting, built with excellence. You buy it and forget about it. Well designed.

I love my Corolla. I had to trade in my Ford F-150, which I loved, because I was about to have my baby, and It was getting harder to get in and out of the truck. I was a little upset in the beginning, but love it now. Its a fun car to drive, and cute too. What really got me was the steering wheel, very sporty... Ha ha. Well, if youre reading the reviews because youre considering to buy a Corolla S model, trust me, you wont be disappointed.

The mileage on my car is over 60K miles, not a single problem so far. Very satisfied. With a manual transmission Im getting on average 35 mpg, which helps with the current gas prices.

Bought this 2001 with 98,000 miles in January, 2009. Was a very clean, one-owner car. As of Aug 2016 we now have 230,000 miles on it, some rust showing, but it may give us another year. Only repair besides expected maintenance was the rack-and-pinion went out; replaced with inexpensive used part. This car has been reliable, very good on gas (usually 35-40 mpg; winter that dips), and easy to park in our small parking pad. Oh, both front springs have broken, but since it still steers and brakes and corners fine, Ive not fixed them. It clunks on bumps, but tire wear remains normal. FYI, though, these 1.8L motors do begin to consume oil once miles add up. Oil return ports begin to sludge and restrict, causing blowby. Ive just kept a close eye on oil levels and add as needed. I used Amsoil for a long time, but now use inexpensive conventional, and synthetic in MN winter.

  • reliable car, more power desired though. - 2001 Toyota Corolla

I now have driven this car for over 3 years, it has 57k miles and Ive only had to buy an airflow meter since my last review and I installed it myself to save money. The rest is usual upkeep, wheel alignment, air filter, fluid & oil changes, ect. No more hassles with repairs at dealerships for years now thankfully so the car has been problem free since its rough start. I have found that 93 octane gas eliminates the foul odor, the other octanes cause it to smell bad.

We bought this car new in May 2001, we now have 135K miles on it and still love it! The only issues we have had to deal with was replacing the clutch at 95K (driver fault) and simple maintenance. The front brake pads lasted until 120K (I check them regularly). I still average about 31mpg when its all city driving and 36 when I commute on the highway. We could afford a new car, but I will drive this one until its last mile, and would not hesitate to buy another. With that said it is not perfect and there are drawbacks like interior size, road noise, etc.. But I am a believer that those are little things while reliability and affordability are the things that are harder to come by.
