This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

this vehicle is every bit as nice as driving my ls 400,with the added bennefit of much better mileage.

  • Bad Paint - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I have had this car and Three other Toyotas They started out good and keep getting worse. This car isnt a year old and the paint on the metal and the paint on the plastic are different colors now. I am sure it will get worse, but what are you suppose to do? The factory paint is way better than some person can do by hand. I wont let them touch the car... If it was a quality car, this would have never happened. Toyota has got to big and cares only about money, the thing the brought down ford and Chevy. By the way, mine is Silver, Stay away from the Silver ones. My past Toyotas were all Silver and had no problems. It just goes to show you where the quality is going.... down down down down..

Great automobile for the money! The Avalon has many standard features that are extra in comparable models. The gas mileage is excellent. Highway 31+ City & Highway 23-27 MPG. The large car handles well with plenty of room for passengers. The vehicle is definitely worthy of the Lexus name, with the value and dependability of Toyota.

  • Boring - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I bought this car after reading some really positive reviews. I dont know what they were thinking. I think this car is boring and ponderous to drive. And the quality is so-so. It is pretty quiet, but so are a lot of other cars out there. Mark me as disappointed. I really liked my old Lexus a lot better (but I dont like the new Lexuses (Lexi?) as much as the old). Toyota didnt hit the mark on this car.

  • 2006 XLS after one month - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Again,I find the front seats "smallish"in width and length (as they were in my 2002 Lexus ES300). The display of the sequential shift position ie., 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th is almost impossible to read because it is unlit and does not show up readily. The small pass through space is ridiculously inadequate unless a couple of 2x4s are your common cargo (or skis). Front passenger seat adjustment- up and down- should be standard on the XLS, I think. Knee room, behind the wheel, is minimal for me at an even 6 in height. At one month of ownership these are my negative comments.

  • LOST OIL, No indicator light came on - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I was very confident with my Toyota. Loved it and was so pleased that it was one of the best made. Then I drove home from work with only 36,077 miles on the car and left a trail of oil down my drive way, then oil ran out all over my drive way as the rubber hose oil line had burst. I had it towed in to the Toyota dealer and of course the warranty covered it as I had purchased an extended warranty. I am now not confident with the reliability of my car.

  • Luxury pocket rocket! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I looked at the Mercedes 300, BMW 5 series, and the Lexus for my next car. I couldnt justify the pricing points of the German ubervehicles with the amentities they offered and, being in the mountains of New Mexico, was uncertain of the service quality I could expect. I looked at the Avalon on the way to the Lexus dealer and that, as the song says, . . .was all she wrote. I chose the Touring model for its firmer ride, larger tires, and different shift points and havent been disappointed. It is simply awesome to take a 35 mph mountain switchback at 60+. And to arrive at your destination without the usual aches, stiffness, and tingling nether regions.

We just returned from a round trip from Kentucky to Sun City, Az. The car was loaded heavily for our three month stay. The overall mileage going and coming was 29.96 mpg. We have been Lincoln Town Car owners for years and the seats of the Avalon fit our bodies better than the Lincolns.

  • Loss of engine oil - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Same thing happened to my Avalon . No light no warning. Dealer said just made it in before the engine went. Happened to our friend with the same car. Do not understand why Toyota has not done a recall if this is happening with a lot of Avalons. Took almost three weeks for parts to come in. But the gave us a loner car. Love the car this is our first Avalon and will not be our last.

  • A GREAT car! With so much too offer! - 2006 Toyota Avalon

I have said for a long time that this is a great car on so many levels. Its a 5 star car with one bad star which is not its fault. Technology. This car was built in late 2005 as a 2006 Avalon XLS. This was before car interior technology has blossomed into what it has become today. So its missing Bluetooth, USB ports and NAV. But for those that remember tape cassettes, CD player and great sound this car rules. This car rules in many other ways too. Spacious interior design. So much so that you can have 5 large adults seated in the car. Both front seat pushed all the way back and those seated in the back will still have ample leg room. And the back seats tilt backward giving those adults a limo like ride. Excellent MPG for such a big car. I regularly get 31 MPG on the highway. The only vehicles that get better gas mileage are hybrids! This Avalon has stayed in great shape and Toyota has maintained it wonderfully. I think the car will run forever!
