Overview & Reviews
Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.
- A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
- No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

Love it! - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By Ion - June 1 - 8:00 pmThis has been my daily driver since new. I change the oil with Mobil 1 and the car behaves like new, even with 54,000 miles. I still have the same brakes and just changed the tires. I drive 55 miles/day and many of those miles are on twisty roads with tight corners (Sunset Blvd. in L.A.). The car corners and accelerates beautifully. I highly recommend it as an economical (average 25.5 mpg) fun car to drive.

After 2 years and 60K miles..... - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By SOA does not care - May 24 - 10:00 amI would never buy another Subaru again! I broke my Transmission at 28k miles and SOA (Subaru of America) said it was my fault for "destroying" the car, therefore waranty was voided. I did a search on the internet, and discovered that I am not the only owner with this "weak" tranny problem. Its a very common problem that SOA chooses to ignore. Recalling a defective tranny is very expensive. My advice.... buy Audi! better build, better car, better company!

Safe. Utility. Bold. AWD. Reliable. Ubuy - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By Blur125 - May 15 - 3:10 amSubarus are awesome vehicles. And while this is the entry level vehicle, its got the heart and soul of a Subaru! This has a rally inspired boxer 2.5l engine that gets 22-26 mpg (actual, depending on how nice you are to er). Thats with AWD!! You cant beat having AWD if you like to shred mountains, ride trails, surf breaks, or relax while camping. While this particular model doesnt have a nice trim package nor nice interior, it has the basics youd need while driving. And a manual is the way to go if you drive highway a lot. Wagons are a bonus for more storage space. I used it to travel back and forth between college with my entire room loaded in it. Nice fold down seats.

The beauty of AWD - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By Hogan Jr. - March 28 - 10:00 amIve had my Outback for over a year and love it. 30000 miles without a hitch. Good power, decent room, and AWD for security. A black and silver Outback sport looks so much better than any WRX Ive seen. If youre considering the protege5, Matrix, or Jetta wagons, you better check out this car. It beats all those AND has the AWD as a bonus.

Best Sports Car for 25K - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By MikeMax - March 28 - 10:00 amThis is the best sports car for under 25K! You really have to drive it for a while to appreciate how good and fast it can be. It is a great tool for the performance-oriented drivers. If you do not like interior/exterior, spend 15K more on S4.

Transmission Problems - 2002 Subaru Impreza
By bigsuda - March 20 - 8:33 amI bought this car about six months ago with 47k miles on it. Pretty low for an 02. I was having problems with getting it into first gear and reverse so I took it in to the local dealership. They told me that there was a problem (I expected it to be the clutch), and was told that there is a problem with the synchronizers in the transmission! Seems a little low mileage, well maybe a lot low, to be having problems with a transmission. I havent added any aftermarket parts and take care of all my cars! Might be a lemon, but seems to be a ridiculous deal. $1500+ bill just to get started. Oh, and the warranty just expired 4 months ago due to an 01 delivery date. Wonderful!
