Overview & Reviews
The Sentra has been completely overhauled for the 2000 model year. A better ride, more powerful engines and a new enviro-friendly version top the bill, and we likes what we sees.
- Powerful engines, SULEV status for CA model, 145-horsepower SE sport version
- Generic styling

Economical but Fun - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By PKristin - January 27 - 10:00 amWhen I was going to buy a car I was pretty definite I wanted a Honda Civic. My brother convinced me to try other cars and Im very glad he did. The Sentra has been a pleasant surprise. I love to travel and it is comfortable on long trips and gets great gas mileage. I always average above what the suggested MPG is for the car.

Never again! - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By Buy a Civic Instead - January 16 - 1:30 pmI bought this car brand new from the dealership. So far I have had 5 recalls and numerous other problems. I, like many of you, have heard that "chirping noise" that the belts make. I was told that it is normal. Ok, so I have an annoyingly noisey car. I can deal with that. What I could not "deal" with was that the catalyic converter and the PCM (the cars computer) both went out. Just to let you all know, they ARE covered by the Federal Emmisions Warranty of 8yr/80,000 mile. However, the dealership (not the one I bought it at) had me spend over $800 in unnecessary repairs.Long story made short, I traded in my unreliable deathtrap of a Sentra for a reliable safe Civic.

Wonderful over all. - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By ZoliElo - January 3 - 10:00 amOverall a wonderful car. Quick, reliable, and stylish. Quick do to the legandary SR20De engine. Reliable because of good build quality. And stylish in that it has a mini Maxima car feel to it. Having been a crash in this car I am definitely recommend its safety.

56,300 miles & not a single problem yet! - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By SR20DE MAN - January 3 - 10:00 amThis is one of the most reliable cars that I have ever bought. I redline the engine quite often & it still runs like brand new. It pulls fairly strong for a 2 liter engine. It also sips gas. About 25 MPG city & 32 MPG highway. The suspension is pretty firm. Too bad that they discontinued the SE in 2002.

Bang for the Buck - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By 2000SR20 - January 3 - 10:00 amI have well over 75,000 miles on my SE and it continues to run like new. My car has all of the standard bolts ons (More than 25Hp more than stock) and is used as an autocross and track car often gaining better times than other cars twice as expensive. Even with the hard use, it just keeps on going without a problem yet. Great car for the money with a surprising amount of performance.

Piece of foreign junk!!! - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By Awful luck with cars - October 16 - 8:50 pmI bought this 5-spd car in Nov. 2008 only because my 93 Buick Centry(oh how I miss you!!!) finally died. So the car was great for the first 5 months, then the battery and alternator died, but i expected this since the car was 8 years old with 101,000 miles on it, so no big deal. a couple of months after that, Mass Airflow Sensor died, then EVAP Sensor, then a coil in 1 of my cylinders, then my struts, springs and strut mounts broke on the driver side....oh yea, and my check engine light is still on!! Ive spent about 3k just trying to fix the car so it passed inspection, but after the struts blew, Im done!!! To make things worse...I still owe $2500 on the loan when I bought the car! My luck!

Best bang for the buck - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By Cayman - July 28 - 10:00 amCompared to the Corolla, Civic, and Focus the Sentra is the best car value around. The 3 recalls surprised me considering Nissan usually builts good cars, but then maybe not as reliable as a Honda. I also had chirping sounds from the belt. Its fixed now unless the weather is damp and the belt gets wet. This car scares me when driving in snow. Not sure if its the tires or the weight distribution but the traction sucks.

Reliable Nissan - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By stewby - May 25 - 7:43 pmI bought my SE automatic used and now have over 83,000 miles on it. The horn quit working (broken wire in steering column) and an emission valve failed. Thats been it. Not even a bulb. I just do normal maintenance on the car. This is the best car Ive owned.

Good Little Car; Fun to Drive - 2000 Nissan Sentra
By Hilly - January 21 - 2:00 amMy wife has driven this car for nearly three years now and it has only had tow minor recall issues. Other than that, only oil and filter chages and new rubber at 40k miles. Handling is very good and it is actually more fun to drive than my 2001 Camry--great in the snow, too.
