This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

  • Will I ever buy American again.......?? - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

First time buying a foreign make. Father GM retiree; GM a major account of mine. You would think I would be compelled to purchase under the GM badge or at least remain loyal to the domestics. Plenty of research, discussions and test drives combined with the bitter taste of recent thousand dollar plus visits to GM service centers drove me to explore options. Trailblazer got high marks - nice going GM. Our Pathfinder has been the reward and compensation we had hoped for. A great all-around vehicle. Like your favorite, cozy chair - always familiar and welcoming. Now in the market for another vehicle... HEY BIG THREE!! What do you got to sway me ??

Overall a fantastic SUV. As with others, I cant say enough about the new V6. Tons of power and acceleration even at high speeds. The interior is nice but, as with other Nissans I have seen, has been "cheapened" up. The headroom is a little tight. Im only 6 0" and my head is touching the roof unless I lay back the seat. Only other complaint is that the side mirrors are not integrated with the memory seeting.

  • Cmon Nissan, you can do better! - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

After 7 years of owning the pathfinder (60,000 miles), here is an accurate assessment. Despite 3,000 mi oil changes, there have been numerous mechanical issues/failures (i.e., ignition coils, front springs, air cond, exhaust sys). After reviewing my old bills, I was spending 1500-2000 dollars a year on it at the dealership. I am truly disappointed in Nissan. MY LAST ONE EVER. There quality control is terrible. I thought Renault would correct that, however, it has gotten worse.

For the first 75,000 miles and when the gas prices were reasonable "my nissan" was great. Long distance, over three hundred miles at a time, the leather seats were a bit unconfortable. After 100000 miles, little things began to happen.........check engine light comes on, clock goes dim than out for good, hesitation on acceleration and the transmission is starting to act up. I think its time to trade the old guy in.

  • Its the 4WD Maxima - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I cant say enough good things about our 2001 Pathfinder. We were skeptical trading in a 1999 4Runner. This pathfinder Wins HANDS DOWN. Safe, nimble handling, much better gas mileage than the Toyota. We Just Love it. Two kids in car seats rinding in the back seat now, Golden Retriever in the way back. Two Kayaks on the roof. The Power and Handling are key. Great Feel for the road. The reliability is BULLETPROOF. My husband is on his 3rd Maxima and he prefers to drive the Pathfinder AKA the "4WD Maxima" Cheap Gas does not affect the power.

  • Incredible - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

If you want a pathfinder make sure it is post 2001 so you get the awesome engine. I was used to the performance of my maxima and doubted the pathfinder until I drove a 2001, WOW! I would like a nicer interior and better placement of the bose sound speakers, but the performance and handling are too good to complain about. I battled between this and the 4runner for a long time, I made the right decision, this car is flat out sweet!

  • Fun SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I traded in my silverado for an older SUV that I could beat up in the wood line and still look good on the street. The pathfinder exceeded my expectations. w/o a lift kit, I have taken it on some challenging SC trails should I say treeless spaces. The smaller size helps me squeeze up and down the small trails on local hills. Assent and desent angels are great for scalling over things and she can get sideways pretty well too; but I wont push too hard until I get a lift kit and a wench. Plenty of power at the stop light, from a roll, and on the highway pass. I get a scare now and then about rolling over; but otherwize runs and handles like a champ. Comfortable w/quality materials inside.

  • Puts the "Sport" back in SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I traded in a Spyder GS-T in for the Pathfinder in hopes of getting something more practical. The Pathfinder definately is more practical and the performance is outstanding! I dont have OEM tires, but the ones that the Pathy came with grip pretty good in high-speed cornering. Also there isnt too much lean in turns. A great truck for those wanting more than just something to haul with.

  • Looks, safety, and comfort - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I have to say, if you are looking for an SUV thats fun to drive, and really safe for your loved ones, this is it. I just toatalled mine and it saved my life. The frame bent, the vehicle gave, but I escaped with very minor injuries. Also, invest in the Nissan dealer installed bumper guard. It gives you an extreme amount of added protection. I highly reccommend this vehicle if safety and style are your main concerns.
