This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

  • mixed feelings - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This Car looks, handles and feels great and in 2001 it was more powerful than 2001 Toyota 4Runner and more stylish. Engine got boosted to 240HP over very weak 168HP 3.3 liter. With that came a lots of MAF, O2,Crank position sensor failures. Use of premium fuel is more than recommended. Weak transmission and aggressive rust on under-body (save yourself and spray it prematurely if you can). Strut tower failures. Realistic fuel economy is 14city and 20 Hwy.

  • Unreliable Car & Expensive Repairs - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Our second Pathfinder. All reg maint done at dealership. Had to replace O2 sensors at 34000 miles, and second one at 52000. At 61000, dealership said I had a bad catalytic converter and since we had just passed (by two weeks) the 8 year ownership mark, they refused to fix it. First two repairs were $700 each, cat converter estimate is $1000. Have had engine knock for 2 years that dealership couldnt isolate/repair. Knowing that the sensors had gone out, and there was an engine knock, they should have checked cat converter. We will fix this, sell it, and go back to buying Toyotas.

Although i like the way they build the car exterior and interior wise, i do not like the way they have so much problems. When i bought the car in 2001 to a total of 42,433 grand, i though i will get a quality vehicle, i was wrong. I bought the state of the line entertainment system, lo jack and a push bar, all have failed me. My BOSE 6 CD changer doesnt work, keeps on getting the error "err2" which means disk stuck, push bar is poor quality and the lo jack doesnt work. I though i would get a good car but this car breaking down every time. replaced the windshield washer motors 8 times and still doesnt work and the step bar is corroded and the transmission is going only at 52343. Do not buy

  • Poor quality - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

The poor quality has me looking to dump it. With 35k family / street miles and keep in a garage, the transmission is already slipping in all gears, the rear hatch rattles and has rubbed the paint off, oxygen sensor has been replaces 3 times and the side molding is coming off. This vehicle will be nothing but problem into the future.

  • Never Again - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Various sensors always seem to be burning out, especially O2 sensors. Ive gone thru 5 in the last 2 years. I also had the CD changer replaced 4 times. If youre going to buy one of these get the extended warranty! I wish I had splurged and bought the MDX. At 35,000 I got backed into by a dump truck and it has never ridden right since. Cant really blame the vehicle for this, but after 8 trips you would think the dealer could fix the horrible vibration. Ill keep this as a beater and buy a fun car to drive.

  • NOT WHAT EXPECTED - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I just bought the vehicle and I have had several annoying problems. It has 28,000 miles on it and the steering wheel vibrates. I took it back to Nissan and they balanced the tires but it still vibrates. The transmission always seems to "clunk" into gear just after take off. The tranny also slips first thing after a start up. Once it warms up it seems to be fine. Im thinking of returning this junker. Also the gas pedal too touchy.

  • Electrical Nightmare - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

At 60K miles, this vehicle is amazingly problematic. We have taken good care of it, but I have lost track of all the electrical problems. I will try to recount them: - The ignition wont come on reliably. I drove it to work today and when I tried to go to lunch it would not start. I was stuck with a buck and a vending machine. - Rear window wont roll up from front switch. - Gear shifter wont budge from park when applying the brake. - Engine light keeps coming on because of the electronic fuel injection controls (bad connector).

  • Ill never buy another Nissan! - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This is my second Nissan, the first being a Maxima. I have had numerous problems with this car, considering in the last 6 months it has been into the dealer 9 times! Dont buy one...and if you have one, make sure you airbag sensors actaully work!

  • Female Perspective:Rides like a truck... - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

only worse. Didnt know its a truck chasis-wish Id paid closer attn @dealership. Feels like spine compresses when u go over the tiniest bump. Nowhere to put purse. Purse/any cargo-no matter where in car-rolls around, contents spill out. I put crates in back to contain groceries etc & they slide around too. Net is useless. Back hatch extremely heavy & takes all my strength to close. Passngr seat has a 1" gap between the seat & seatback. Whatever is put on seat ends up in back floor. Cupholders are too close together. Cell charger in the way when in park. CD player ate a CD while under warranty so dealer had to replace. Hi-test gas. Bad blind spots on both sides. Limited passngr legroom.

  • Dealer decline to honor warranty - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

The car showed a paint imperfection like small craters all around the body. I took the car to the dealer to get the dealer paint the car. However it declined to do. The fact is that the car is parked under the roof/garage all the time. The dealer alleged it was caused by environment. The dealer is Motorambar, San Juan Puerto Rico.
