This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

  • Ill never buy another Nissan! - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This is my second Nissan, the first being a Maxima. I have had numerous problems with this car, considering in the last 6 months it has been into the dealer 9 times! Dont buy one...and if you have one, make sure you airbag sensors actaully work!

  • 01 Pathys OK, but... - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Ive had my 2001 Pathfinder LE for quite a while now. I have not had any truly mechanical issues during this time so have to say that its been pretty good. As with several other reviewers, Ive seen the following issues: 1. Engine, transmission, drive shaft sensors have all been replaced 2. The Bose in-dash 6-disc changer (made by Clarion by the way) gave me the Err messages at about 3 years in or 40K. Had to replace it with an after market unit. 3. The interior durability is VERY poor. Ive replaced the driver side power seat motor/rails. 4. Today, Im going to be paying about $700 for some A/C repairs. All in all, its just been OK. My 1999 Maxima was rock solid but was pre-Goshen..

Ive had my Pathy for about three years now. So far I havent had any major problems. It still rides better then most cars. The gearbox moans when I put it in reverse sometimes. The Bose (Clarion actually) CD changer stopped working. Its a known problem that Nissan wont fix. I sent mine to Clairon for repair. The paint has held up well. I wish the springs were a little stiffer as they compress too easily and can bottom out when hauling adults and cargo. I put Yoko tires on and it eliminated some of the body roll, better ride too. Id still recommend the 2001 although I like the styling on the 2004 and newer better. Hopefully the gas mileage is improved.

  • Good except for two annoying problems - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

The 6 CD changer quit working at 50k miles, and the automatic transmission started giving me trouble at 70k miles. Between 40 and 70 mph, it lurches sometimes and shifts hard into overdrive. The dealer recommended replacing it for $2900, but its still mostly OK so Im still driving it without the repair. Now Im at 80k miles. Ive been very pleased with the power. Rear passengers sometimes complain about the ride, but as the driver I love it. Very good sound system. I get 17 mpg overall with the 3.5 liter V6. One or both front brake rotors warped somewhere along the way, but I brake hard so it may be my fault. Other than these problems its been completely trouble free.

  • My Pathfinder - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I have been very pleased with my Pathfinder ever since I purchased it! Most of all I am happy with the power, reliability{We have had ours over three years and not one problem} and the way it rides like a car and not a truck. If it was just a little bigger it would be perfect. I would buy another one in a minute, even with a growing family like ours!

after reviewing suvs the pathfinder had the stuff we were looking for.

  • Good for family - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

The reason I purchased the Pathfinder was that it had the best acceleration of all of the other SUVs I test-drove. Although I enjoy my Pathfinder, I miss the feeling of driving my old sports car. If I had a family, this would be the best thing to have if I was limited to buying an SUV or mini-van.

  • Reliable, Luxury + Fun - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Have owned Pathfinder SE from 97-01 and now LE since 01...manuvers easily, totally reliable, extra HP on 01 makes driving fun...a lot features are standard (too many to list) on LE with wood trimmings..that makes it an excellent choice..huge trunk space..love it!

  • Great SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

My wife and I did extensive research online for reliability data, value, etc for the best used SUV. We narrowed our choices down to the Pathfinder (orQX4), the Highlander, and the MDX. After driving all of these vehicles, we decided the Pathfinder was by far the best deal. We couldnt be happier. The vehicle drives great and has fantastic acceleration. The navigation system has reliably taken us straight to each requested destination, and the entertainment system keeps my 2 year old happy (he now insists we take this vehicle everywhere). This is the 5th Nissan Ive owned, so I know reliability will be outstanding.
