This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

  • Luv my SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought my LE used with 24K. This is the most functional car/truck Ive ever owned and the reliability is so far equal to my experience with Camreys and Maximas. I now have 55K and the only issue I have is with the Bose stereo. The CD/cassette function quit working at around 45K. Otherwise the reliability has been flawless. It hauls my stuff, my kids, and my trailer in all seasons and never lets me down. I test drove every conceivable competitor and for my needs this SUV had the right combination of power, space, torque, comfort, and handling. Very happy with my decision.

  • 4th Pathfinder, still love them - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This is my 4th, starting with a 92, had 200k when I sold it, the other 2 were killed by stupid drivers, the latest has been great. The only major issue I have had is when 2 of my injectors failed, it took a while to find the problem but when the dealership mechanic got it he found it right away. Other than that it has been a solid performing vehicle. I use mine for work and family so it is high miles, currently at 180k but it looks and drives like a much newer vehicle. I can see where Nissan has skimped over the years with quality of the interior materials but with the 01 it appeared to come back a bit. Power is perfect for its size. For its age and what it is I have no complaints.

  • Fun, Reliable but THIRSTY - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

SE model with 5-speed manual feels like a sports car. The SE has stiffer suspension and very little body roll Be aware that the 6 CD Bose system cannot be changed to aftermarket without replacing all of the speakers too. FUEL ECONOMY is os bad that I am considering trading in for an AWD car. My only quality complaint is the paint on the body plastics. chips from rocks lead to huge areas of flaked paint with just hose washing. If fuel was less expensive, I would love the Pathfinder a lot more.

  • Bulletproof - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought the car because my buddy has a 99 with 130K miles and his still looks runs and looks like new. Mine has 77K on it now and seems designed and built to last. Only regular maintenance so far. The engine is awesome and puts others to shame with its smooth power and passing ability. The interior carpet seems to be the only thing that isnt really up to the rugged standards of the rest of the vehicle.

  • Questionable - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I purchased my Nissan SEV6 a year ago. Overall a nice vehicle, but has been in the shop more often for sqeaks & rattles and oil consuption. The power is great! its about time. On quality, as you know Nissan has been in debt for several years now and they have worked hard on the engineering side to make it a better/less costly vehicle to manufactur. Quality difinatly went down-hill. Did you know that Nissan has the fastest assembly-line in the world! It was in USA Today. The total manufacturing process is less than a day per car/truck. The number of consumer complaints hit an all time high for Nissan, especially on the Extera.

Original owner. 147k miles. Engine/tranny/drivetrain no problems at all. This truck has been in 6 accidents (none my fault) always kept me uninjured and today has no rattles or leaks - its as good as new. Have driven since 60k with check engine light on, no problems. Cd player has gone out twice. Everything else in excellent shape, great owner experience. Highway gas mileage really varies with speed. Keep it 65 and can get 21 mpg. Over 75 and its 17.

  • Decent SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought the 2001 Pathfinder LE when it first came out in April 2000. Wish I would have waited a little while until the full-time 4WD was available. But overall I am rather happy with the vehicle. Just make sure you get the extended warranty from Nissan. The standard 3yr/36,000 warranty expires quickly. I have 48,000 miles and have used the extended warranty 3 times already in the past 12,000 miles (for emissions sensors and a leaking wheel cylinder) so it was well worth the cost.

  • stuck in the middle again - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This is the best riding of all mid? size SUVs. Handles fair, plenty of power, and very comfortable seating. Short on luggage capacity, and light on build quality, it is nonetheless the best of a dying breed of 5 passenger (really 4) SUVs. Transmission and window operation are its biggest quirks. The Automatic likes to upshift at inapropriat times and in my estimation is dangerous.

  • Solid car - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Ive owned this pathfinder since it was new and have had very few problems. The alarm goes off for no reason fairly regularly and the rear latch isnt great...you really have to slam it to make it latch. Other than that all Ive done is changed fluids and brake pads. Overall I would say its the most reliable car Ive ever owned and it performs better than any other SUV Ive ever driven. The sound system is excellent as well. I dont love the car, but I would advise anyone to get one.
