This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

A lot of fun to drive. Finally.... enough power for the L.A. freeways! This puppy can get out of the way in a hurry! Provides a comfortable ride. A little noisy (wind noise and road noise). Great size- easy to get around in (great turning radius) and can haul a fair amount. Quick and easy to flatten rear passenger seats for more storage area. Great sound system (although the CD player takes a while to kick in).

I have not had the vehicle for long but she is a dream. Previous to purchasing the Pathfinder, I had my sights set on a Montero Sport. I then discovered that the Pathfinder had a much more efficient engine. A 3.5 V6 that puts out 240HP and 265 lb-ft of torque.(although the new models have more power and better fuel economy) Its still a very strong engine for its class. The Gas bill isnt fun but its a solid, very safe vehicle and I would very much recommend it.

Im researching my Pathfinder and had to jump in with my review. Nissan did extremely right by this vehicle and gave every owner what they paid for including this meticulous driver. My pathfinder has been virtually maintenance free on the replacement repairs but I maintain it in OCD style. I rated the MPG a little higher than most because you have to take into consideration the high performance motor powering it and this is why I purchased it. Never has a vehicle satisfied Me, with the exception of our G35, as this one.In a world of MPG crazed, gutless vehicles, Ill take my Pathy and pay for it all day. Do your own research and drive a few as I did and you will agree.

  • Nice ride - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Ive had my 01 4WD SE for a year now and have to say Im 90% happy with my purchase. The engine is silky smooth but does suck down the premium gas. Power is great as is the storage capacity. This is my first SUV so I cant really compare, but I do know it rides very nice. I opted for the 5- speed and still belive its more fun to drive. The power windows started squealing but it was fixed under warranty, as was the O2 sensor.

  • Too many issues - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Ive liked driving this vehicle for the past 5 years, but the issues Ive had with it are enough that I wouldnt buy another. I had to replace all six ignition coils. When the first 1 went, I took it to a dealer who wanted a lot of money to replace all 6 - when only 1 was faulty. I took it to an independent repair facility, and got another year out of the vehicle before a 2nd coil needed replacement. Slightly less than a year after that and a 3rd went, at which point I replaced the remainder. Top that off with the failure of the CD player at about 60k & finding that was a "known issue". Next time around Ill be going Honda or Toyota - and that will be soon.

I bought my 02 Pathfinder used. Have had it for a year and not a single issue. 4x4 works great and plenty of getup. However, the brakes squeak on occassion and the rear hatch shocks squeak.

I love this car!! The sporty V6 blows away the competition in its class. It has more horsepower than some small V8s that I have seen. The ride is smooth, but handles like an SUV. Driver position is very comfortable, and the LE model is loaded with nice features. Excellent choice!!
