This Year's Model Updates:

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

  • Nice auto if you can afford gas - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

If you read the owners manual, you will see that Premium fuel is defined by the Octane rating. The Premium fuel it recommends is usually the middle grade at most gas stations. This is important to know as my Pathfinder averages only 14.5 mpg. Thats my only complaint though, so overall Im happy.

  • Nice to drive but MANY engine problems - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought this after taking a small Toyota to more than 150K miles with no troubles. Like the size, power, interior features and just about everything about the car. But Ive had TERRIBLE engine troubles -- all relating to overheating. Ive had the radiator replace 3 times, valves, hoses, you name it replaced at multiple dealerships in multiple states (not fun when a car breaks down on a vacation) and no one can seem to fix the problem. As I type this, its in the shop for at least the 6th time for overheating. Rental car guy in the service area says he sees 01 Pathfinders come through ALL the time. Wish it had the reliability of my old Toyota.

  • Great SUV - not for tall people - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Overall I love the look and performance of my Pathfinder. It ran great in the sand of the outer banks and in the snow of Michigan. My only problem is the cramped interior. I am 62" and my head touches the ceiling with the seat all the way down. The back seat...forget about it.

  • My 4th Nissan and favorite - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

I traded in my 95 Pathfinder when I saw the commercials in the Summer of 2000 for the new 01 Pathfinder advertising 240 hp. I couldnt be happier. Ive got a lead foot, and the Pathfinder easily accomodates. I can easily hang with the V8 Explorers. The in-dash 6 CD changer is great. Ive already got 34,000 miles on my truck and my one and only problem with it is the poor choice of tires from the factory - Bridestones. Already replaced them with Michelins due to poor tread life. I regularly take trips of 800+ miles and drive it daily to work 25 miles each way - comfortable no matter what.

  • Not quite as reliable as it predecessor - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Previously had a 95 Pathfinder that lasted us 200K miles, this 01 seems it will last another 20-50K at best. It has a good strong 3.5 for hauling even decent loads. It is comfortable but a bit tight for a larger or taller person. Fuel economy is average for an SUV (always 15-16mpg). The inside is easy to use and get to. The 6-disc CD player was dead when we bought it at 45K miles and the dealership would not fix/replace it. This vehicle also eats through 60K mile tires every 30-35K miles even with perfect alignment and maintenance. The engine over 100K miles seems to be weakening, especially at higher RPMs (interstate). The front brakes have needed to be fixed 3 times in the past 40K miles.

  • Great mid size SUV - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

This is the best truck Ive ever owned, with plenty of power and quality. 26000 and no problems whatsoever only oil changes. I love to drive this truck however, if you are going to use the back seat a lot it is not as confortable...I highly recommend this SUV.I have been using unlead gas eventhough premium is required and I have noticed no change in perfomance or increase or decrease in my mileage. Premium gas only once/month.

  • best of the pack - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

The 3.5 L engine is the reason to buy this suv. My came with the 5 speed and it performs ok. The automatic is a better choice. Plenty of room for 4, tight squeeze for 5.

Reliable SUV, but boring after a while.

  • Steering Shutter/Load Capacity - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

I just dumped my 01 Pathfinder for a Ford Explorer. Anyone buying this truck should know that its more a sports car on stilts than an SUV. With a 1,000 pound load (including passengers), its bottomed out...no shock absorbtion at all. Additionally, I went through 2 sets of tires and 14 service visits to fix a steering wheel shutter that begins at 60 and never goes away. Its still there after 45,000 miles and Nissan cant/wont fix it. RECOMMENDATION - Take it on the highway b4 you buy it! Dont get stuck with one like I had. Other than that, a very quick, fun to drive, reliable truck....but not worth the BS.

  • Why havent you bought it yet ? - 2001 Nissan Pathfinder

Well i just traded in my 1993 Maxima and my 1998 altima for the 2001 pathfinder. I absolutly love the truck. The 4 wheel drive is excellent, the VQ35DE engine delivers the power i was looking for, and the auto tranny is smooth as glass. i had 255 tires on mine when i got it so i was pleased. The ride is supportive and the interior is roomy. Ergonomics is nice and interior parts are not cheap feeling.
