Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Great Looking Car, but company does not stand behind it and build quality is poor - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Plain and simple, if you are thinking of buying one - dont. Build quality is suspect. Company doesnt honor warranties. Company wont recall even when 1000s of customers have same issue, etc.

  • bad experience - 2007 Mazda CX-7

2 recalls in 1st week of ownership, car totally unprepared for release requiring 2 return trips to dealer. Harsh ride, too noisy to enjoy Bose sound system, new front calipers within 1000 miles, uneven acceleration, not recommended for long trips. driver windshield wiper leaves large amounts of water on passenger side due to uncoordinated wiper movements.

  • Would never buy this car again! - 2008 Mazda CX-7

This car has horrible paint. As someone else stated paint seems to have flaws. I live in Michigan this car is horrible in even 1 inch of snow ! The tires are very cheap. Need new tires at 12k. I havent experienced the a/c problems others reported is the only positive. The gas mileage is also horrible. The biggest annoyance is the road noise. Cant talk on phone when on the highway without turning cell phone vol. way up !! There also is no room for an infant carseat. I have to move my seat forward to put my baby in or out when using my carseat base. I wish my lease was up last year! Dont buy this car.

  • Dont buy one - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I just traded my 2007 CX-7 for a 2009 Honda Accord. The worst part is the gas mileage. It didnt get even close to what it was supposed to, even when I put premium in it, it averaged 15 mpg on a really good day. Also, during the last two months in the shop with it 5 times. A valve cracked and leaked twice in one month & I had the same valve replaced twice. The light illuminated a third time & the fuel filler neck had to be replaced. I also replaced all 4 tires at 17,000 miles and was told by Mazda this was "normal." This cost me $800. Not to mention 2 recalls and cheap, boring interior design with crappy leather. Remote start also sucks. So happy with my new car and glad to be rid of the CX7!

  • It was a good SUV until the Turbo went 2x - 2010 Mazda CX-7
    By -

I enjoyed driving this truck everyday, until last year (2013) the turbo decided to quit. It started billowing smoke from the tailpipes. Luckily this was replaced under the warranty. Fast forward 9 months and 2000 miles over warranty the turbo goes again and Mazda refuses to pay for the entire fix. A part they fixed fails not even a year after it was replaced. I was a loyal Mazda owner and was looking forward to purchasing another, not anymore.

  • Dont Bother! - 2008 Mazda CX-7

Terrible in winter conditions; poor visibility; safety belt signals 30x for front passenger if you so much as have a briefcase on the seat; really dim driving lights (I have to use my high beams as much as possible).

  • Mazda owner - 2007 Mazda CX-7

My Mazda at first take off, feels like Im riding over rocks in the road. Ive always liked the body of the Mazda cx-7, but the interior isnt as roomy as Id like and I also wanted the interior to be cloth, but not the kind that if drop something on it it would be difficult to clean. The gas mileage I was hoping it would be better than 19 in town. The handling of the car around curve is very stiff and feels very dangerous to me and driving in the rain is very dangerous to me as well, it doesnt handle on the road very well in the rain.

  • Would not buy again - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Replaced the turbo after 16,000 miles & brake rotors cut down at 17,000. All covered under warranty but still shouldnt happen. Gas mileage is TERRIBLE. As long as the turbo doesnt kick in (which w/the 4 cyl. it always does) Im getting 12.5 MPG. This is NOT a car for aggressive drivers! Doesnt handle well on corners, lots of roll. With Premium gas only, I spend $400+ a month just driving to work. (6 days at 70 MPD)Trading it in after a year!

  • So Disappointed!! - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

Was so excited when I got a great deal on this car. I have been disappointed on the performance since that day. I am averaging 15-16 miles per gallon, and It takes premium gas!! Ouch!! The car feels like its trying too hard all the time. The transmission light has come on twice now, and they are upgrading a computer as I write this review. Lets see what happens. Also no outside temperature on the Sport model. Whats with that??

  • ...and it just keeps getting better....NOT!!! - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

    1. Turbo replacement at 65K miles....$3400 2. FIRST VVT replacement at 72K miles....$1600 3. SECOND VVT replacement at 90K miles....$1200 (got only the part...$450...as "goodwill"...yeah me!) 4. Transmission replacement at about 100K miles....$4000+ ....getting a letter from Mazda in the mail that "extends the warranty" on the VVT...thinking I may be able to recoup ~$3000, only to find that the extension was only to 70K miles.....PRICELESS!!!! Does anyone else find it odd that these warranties expire JUST before something MAJOR happens? Someone is getting "ZOOM ZOOMd" alright!!
