Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • DO NOT buy this car - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I can only say that I will never buy another Mazda. As much fun as this car is to drive, the thing has had major mechanical problems from the first 20,000 miles, and I mean major problems. Turbo charger replaced twice, transfer case twice, air conditioner moter froze, throttle body died, serpantine belt broke on and on and on.... Thank god I bought the extended warranty.

  • Very Disappointing! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Leased this vehicle in 2007, when first hit the market...Loved the appearance and style......but quickly became an unreliable vehicle....our first "vacation" behind the wheel was spent at a Mazda dealership along the way to the beach replacing the engine....YES! REPLACING THE ENGINE!....We had the car less than 6 months when this happened...Since then, it had the Turbo system replaced.....Still has grey smoke occasionally from exhaust, which I have learned to live with....tired of spending my free time with Mazda Service Dept. It most likely needs the Turbo replaced AGAIN to correct the problem (same thing as before)....will be ready to give this baby back to Mazda at the end of my lease!

there has been some problems so far. we hace 2400 miles on it. the air con is not the strongest, during our hot summer in Orlando it does not cool off no matter how far you drive. Mazda told me the days are just too hot being over 100 degrees. we suffered for about 2 weeks this summer with a brand new car that cant cool off. then yesterday i noticed a strange smell coming from the engine compartment. i made an appointment and not sure what the problem is now. im beginning to think we should have purchased the Toyota rav 4

  • No more Mazda for me - 2007 Mazda CX-7

This is a fun car when its not in the shop. Gas cap replaced; turned on engine service light. Transaxle went out 22,ooo miles. Fuel gauge showed half tank, I ran out of gas on major city highway during rush hour. Fuel sending unit replaced. Turbo went out 42000 miles. Original tires lasted 20,000 miles. (soft tread) Ive tried 5 different mazda dealers and have had the worst service Ive ever experienced. Their techs and mechanics are incompetent. Ive been lied to about oil changes. Had to take car back 4 and 5 times for repair issues. Example: floats not adjusted properly after sending unit replaced, digital key malfunction, they damaged fenders said my fault. ETC. Buy another brand

  • Thank Goodness its under warrenty! - 2008 Mazda CX-7

Yesterday was the second time in less than 2 weeks that the car broke down and I had it towed to the dealer. After about 2,000 miles I had to have the brakes replaced (the car shimmied with each application of the breaks). At 26,000 miles I was told by the service manager that I should replace my tires. No one at the dealership seemed to think this was outrageous. Last week, the air compressor quit and a belt broke. It took the dealer 4 days to repair. Yesterday, I heard a clunk, my battery light went on, then the car quit. I have 28,400 miles on the car. This is a lease vehicle. When I turn the car in 12/2009, I am done with Mazda!

  • Not A Wonderful Vehicle - 2011 Mazda CX-7

Bought our CX7 in August 2011 new, vehicle now has 10,000 miles. CX7 is a big disappointment. AC not adequate, turbo hesitates, paint job brilliant black is inferior and gas mileage poor. Complained to Mazda and after BBB intervention Mazda extended the warranty. Trying to sell this vehicle. Just purchased a 2013 Honda CRV base model, because we were not sure we would want to keep it long haul. The Honda is trouble free. AC is wonderful, vehicle is well built and solid. Only have 2,000 miles, but can not say enough positive things about our CRV. The paint job Twilight blue is excellent. The gas mileage is 18 city 30 highway as tracked on computer.

  • Fun to drive, not fun to maintain - 2008 Mazda CX-7
    By -

The 2008 CX7 is a fun car to drive, but over the years has been less than fun to maintain. Less than 3 months after purchasing it brand new, the exhaust tips began rusting. That was the first bad sign. Since then in just over 2 years, Ive had a door replaced after rusting, trailer hitch has rusted, tires lasted a whole 18,000 miles, I need new brakes and rotors already, and the EGR valve has gone bad and needs replacement ($900 repair). After all of this, last week I decided to trade in the vehicle rather than deal with 3 more years of problems on the loan. Im picking up my 2011 GMC Terrain tomorrow.

  • Great car except for headlights - 2010 Mazda CX-7

I could heady see at night driving this car. Poor visibility and very dangerous at night to drive

  • Bad Reliability - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

I bought the first model year for this vehicle and it came with some issues. When i had 14,000 miles, the engine seal was leaking and they had to do some major repairs to the engine, luckily this was under warranty. At 42,000 the air compressor failed and broke the serpentine belt and major issues to the AC system, unfortunately i was out of warranty and i was responsible for all costs. Ended up trading in the vehicle due to so many issues.

  • A little disapointed - 2007 Mazda CX-7

This vehicle is a little like a body builder. Looks great and impressive from a distance. However, when you really get to know it its a little disappointing. I was very excited to buy this car but was so thoroughly unimpressed with the engine and performance I just couldnt get myself to buy it. The 4 cylinder turbo is jerky and lags quite a bit. The biggest problem is the fact that when you hit the gas the engine screams so loud you feel like its in the passenger seat. I am a Mazda lover having owned two, I will re-visit the CX-7 when my wife gets ready to replace her vehicle I hope by then they change the powertrain.
