This Year's Model Updates:

The 2003 Honda Element is a completely new vehicle for Honda. It's also the most adventurous Honda vehicle in quite a long time. Its blend of features, such as barn-style doors and waterproof seats, make it a good choice for those with active lifestyles.

Pros:
  • Impressively versatile interior, optional four-wheel drive, trick audio system, styled as if out of a Japanese animation movie.
Cons:
  • Only seats four, Elements with automatic transmissions and 4WD can seem sluggish.

  • Loved it except for windshield issue - 2003 Honda Element

Super for hauling 2 mountain bikes without disassembling any bike parts - both fit fine standing up in the back with seats out or seats hanging up on the side. Loved being able to sleep in it on road trips with all seats left in/just reclined (just put mesh fabric over windows with magnets to hold fabric in place.) Super dependable in the rain and snow. Excellent turning radius. Doors became problematic when I had two toddlers and had to park next to other cars at the grocery store and get them in and out. I had to replace 4 or 5 windshields because rocks caused cracks (I think it must be a design flaw.) Honda did cover the first one when we could not find a rock pock at the crack start.

Just bought the Element in time for the snow storm in Charlotte..had no problems getting around town. Excellant stereo system, nice interior. Spilled coffe the 2nd day in the floor, did not worry ..wiped right up, no stains..yeeha ..and I am not the targeted consumer, go figure Honda!

  • My experiences over five years - 2003 Honda Element

I have a 2003 AWD Element, bought new in 03. In my rural real estate practice, I go absolutely everywhere, and in all kind of conditions. (The Pittsburgh end of Pennsylvania is very hilly!). I have taken it through farmer fields in knee-to-waist-high grass and weeds in showing land. I also have five years experience in all kinds of winter weather, often driving on ice and up to ten inches or so of snow. (The experiences I could tell you!). I usually use an aggressive tread all- weather tire in the winter, or sometimes a mud & snow. I dont particularly overload my Element with heavy "stuff" in the rear, although I do keep lots of real estate stuff back there (for fixing "for sale" signs).

  • Too Expensive once you add what you want - 2003 Honda Element
    By -

I looked at buying an Element, I drove a CRV, a Rav4, and an Element. At first glance the Element looks to be a bargin. Its layout is very flexible, the rear opening is what all SUVs should have, not those stupid side opening doors the CRV or Rav4 have. When you start adding the option you want the price climbs quickly. Considering that most people are paying over MSRP for a Element it is no longer a bargin. Remote locks are extra, you got to be kidding, an arm rest for the passenger non existant.

  • I hate this thing! - 2003 Honda Element
    By -

Ive always liked Hondas, they have a great reputation for quality, but Ive never owned one. I thought this would be a great alternative to a minivan, and for about two days it was. The thing is about 70 percent plastic, and the looks of the interior is driving me crazy after about a month. I thought the exterior look was cutting edge at first, but I see people actually pointing and laughing at it while driving. It really IS stupid looking now that I have to see it in my driveway every day. Im hoping someone will steal it soon.

Beware - there is no protection for the radiator! Mines already been bashed by road hazards!

  • A Utilitarians Nirvana - 2003 Honda Element

This is the vehicle for all fathers with 2 or more children who also do work around the house. No hassle to clean; no hassle to drive; no headache when the kids want ice cream; no problem when you need to go to Home Depot. And if you put on the right accessories, no problem when you need to take clients out to dinner. In fact, with all that leg room in the back, my clients just love it even if they are wearing $3000 suits. I love this vehicle. And it looks cool to boot!

  • The Starter Home of SUVs - 2003 Honda Element

I wanted my first independent car purchase to be something fun and a little flashy. After pricing the sport wagons from Toyota, I decided to take a look at the Element. I discovered that the pricing and options on the 4WD Auto made it a more than viable option. The fact that you can pratically hose the thing out was also a big draw. The test drive didnt disappoint-- a very smooth ride (not unlike a car) at a comfortable height above cars. Going from a Civic to this was simple. The only adjustments were on turn speed, but the Element corners well. Ive had it for 3 weeks now and I still get excited to drive it!

  • Practicality Rules--DO NOT IMPROVE - 2003 Honda Element
    By -

I love the design, the economical materials, the cool looks, the quick handling, the adequate power, the acceptable fuel mileage, the adequate acceleration, and the big windows . This is one heck of a vehicle--there is nothing else like it. It is (relatively) cheap, the design is way cool, the practicality is unmatched by anything short of a pickup, and it will haul four passengers.
