Crossovers with carlike ride and handling characteristics are perennially popular, and a good example of the breed is the smart-looking Ford Edge. It's a midsize crossover with seating for five. Thanks to its roomy interior, long list of amenities and available all-wheel drive, it's typically a good match for small- and medium-size families seeking a do-it-all utility vehicle.
In road tests, our editors have praised the Edge's quiet ride and advanced features like the MyFord Touch electronics interface, though as with most modern, in-car technology, there's a learning curve. Additionally, Ford offers a range of different engines in the Edge to appeal to crossover buyers seeking performance, fuel economy or a balance of both. Although the Ford Edge might not appeal to bigger families in need of high passenger capacity, it's a solid contender in most other respects.

I Love This Car - 2013 Ford Edge
By catseye - July 9 - 10:06 amI now have 1000 miles on my new Edge and I LOVE IT. One adjective that comes to mind is "Refined". You get the feeling that a lot of attention has been paid to the design and ergonomics. Its very stylish and comfortable. On a recent trip I averaged 25 mpg (V6). The tire pressure monitoring system warned me of low pressure I had picked up a nail somewhere that I would not have noticed until the tire went flat. The performance is great and really kicks in when passing. (BTW, I dont think you need AWD added cost, added complexity, reduced gas mileage. I live in Montana and believe that the traction of front wheel drive will be very adequate.)

Not perfect but still 5 Stars - 2013 Ford Edge
By sjoiii - July 3 - 7:51 pmThis is a very smooth quiet riding Crossover which I like better than the Explorer that I traded. I get about 19 mph around town and about 25.5 mph on a trip with the standard 285 HP engine. The seats have good support and it gives me plenty of power on the Western PA hills. I have just driven this about 3,000 miles and my only criticism is that the automatic six speed transmission is rough on occasion. Fortunately my SE does not have the busy MY Ford screen of which everyone complains.

Fantastic Edge - 2012 Ford Edge
By mtschida - May 1 - 9:16 amI bought my 2012 Ford Edge around Thanksgiving of 2011 and wrote a review in January. Wanted to update. I drove 1200 miles through Wyoming and then the mountains of Colorado recently. While AWD Edge is rated at 25 mpg, I consistently get better mileage than that. My first long trip right after purchase was a little better than 22 mpg. Most recent trip averaged 29.4 on one tank. With wind, it dropped to 27+. Driving it daily around town and home in the country, average is 24.5. My husband, who has a heavier foot, gets the same. My mileage is so great that I wondered if they stuck the wrong engine in it.

By mtnarch - April 17 - 11:56 pmVery solid build, no rattles, squeaks or sounds. Lots of power with the V6! Sync with MyFordTouch is really nice - spend time learning it and realize that the touch screen is not instantaneous. V6 will eat up the gas - watch how far you press the peddle down to pass or accelerate - but the power thats there when you do is nothing short of amazing!

Great vehicle!! - 2012 Ford Edge
By emasride - April 2 - 9:49 pmInitially, I saw this 2012 Blue Edge Sport AWD in the showroom and had to have it. I have had 3 Escapes, BMW X5 and a GrandvCherokee.. The first time I test drove the Edge I immediately fell in love, twice..Handles incredibly well..amazingly comfortable and looks great. its been 5 months since I had bought my Edge Sport and still in love..The fit and finish is flawless..plenty of room in all aspects..and the features? wow...way too many to list..I always seem to find something wrong in most things..a bad habit..but honestly? Ford nailed it on the head.....over and over with this one!

By mikeyv823 - January 6 - 5:13 pmI could not stop thinking about the Ford Edge Sport model once I saw the new 2011 come out. The black front grille, the body colored moldings & spectacular 22" wheels. Ive owned mine for 3 months and havent seen another one on the road! Thats how rare they are and how much youll stand out. I couldnt afford a new one so I purchased a 2011 demo in Nov 11 for 8k off sticker! Mine is red. Interior is beautiful as well. System is super super slow though. Its an amazing technology but just not there yet. Its slow to respond and sometimes frustrating but its whats next. If you have an iphone this screen will bug you because its not as user friendly or responsive. Still love it!!

AWD SEL Edge 2012 a Great Consideration - 2012 Ford Edge
By mtschida - December 21 - 12:35 amI live in a mountainous area and have been struggling a few mos. a year with my FWD. It was time to go for an AWD. I also need room for 2 dogs, musical instruments, groceries, grandkids on occasion and was struggling with my smaller FWD sedan. Id put the back seats down on my sedan and the dogs (Border Collies) would slide into the trunk. Needed a bigger car that could hold the road and get up all these hills while filled with stuff...In making my decision, I looked at several vehicles but liked the Edge. Had rented one and was very happy after a week of driving in snow and up and down some big hills. Also loved the tech.

Recovering Toyota Addict - 2011 Ford Edge
By leslie419 - December 11 - 2:22 pmI needed to replace my 2002 Toyota Highlander in October and planned to go back and get a newer model. Am I glad that I made a side trip to Ford! My Edge ROCKS! I was so surprised at the upgrades in power, technology, safety features, and quality of interior and exterior trim that I kept asking my sales rep if this was really a Ford! I could not believe that Ford had done such a drastic turnaround but from the looks I get driving around town and the increasing numbers of Edges I have seen on the road, I believe Ford is serious about getting back into the mid-size SUV/crossover market in a competitive way. If you keep up the value for quality, you have won over a devoted Toyota owner.

Watch out Lexus, MB, BMW... - 2012 Ford Edge
By rhlovelace - December 6 - 7:12 amThe new Ford Edge caught my eye and the Sport version really looked sets this vehicle apart from the others. No other midsize SUV looks as nice. 3.7 L engine is strong for a V6 but car is pretty heavy at 4,400 lbs (2 wheel drive version). Definitely can feel the build quality. Cabin is designed very well. Comfortable at 62". Wish driver seat went lower like passenger seat. MyFordSync is really cool. Weather maps, gas prices, navigation all very cool. There is a learning curve and those that dont LOVE technology may find it a bit frustrating.

By jsonaday - November 29 - 9:20 pmQuiet, smooth, some what comfortable. i hate the navi in it! it is slow to respond and is a hassle to use. The touch buttons are very sensitive but its nice to have. The screen is pretty bad and unresponsive. Too many things to touch or click just to do basic stuff like turn on the heat. Love the 20" rims. Rear Air is awesome and that is one of the reasons we bought this car.
