This Year's Model Updates:

Completely redesigned for 1998, the Intrepid is a sedan that has the graceful styling of a coupe, thanks to a continuation of Chrysler's cab-forward design. Dodge's trademark cross hair grille dominates the front end along with two large, sparkling headlights. And the new Intrepid is powered by your choice of two new V6 engines.

Pros:
  • Large interior, optional 3.2-liter V6 engine, good looks
Cons:
  • Facing tough competition from home and abroad

  • Reliable as Anything Out There - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

This is my second Intrepid. I was going to buy new, but did a search for a Candy-apple Red ES with Climate Control, the Infinity sound system, Trip Computer and a tan leather interior. Found one with only 16k miles, paid what they asked for it and its been a real pleasure to own. Any car will go 100k miles these days with oil changes and new plugs every so often, and you get more car than a Honda.

I purchased this car new and for 3 years was exceptionally pleased. The car was corporate maintained with regular service intervals. The transmission went out at 88k, $1,400 owwee. At 95k the radiator, water pump, fittings were replaced. Then the head gasket to failed, $2,700. 30k miles later the timing belt failed again damaging the valves. $2,400. More problems:battery, coolant, struts, brakes, front end fittings ...I could go on. I keep hoping I will recoup my repair investment, but I never do. Im finished now. Tomorrow I pick up a used Navigator.

  • Love My Intrepid - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I didnt like the way the intrepid looked at first, but I test drove it off the lot, and feel in love with how well it handled. I drive in a lot of heavy traffic so I need power to get on the highways, and great brakes. This car has gone well behond my expectations of it. I would buy another one but my inprepid is still running just as good as when I bought it. For people with children, this car has plenty of room in the trunk for all that comes with having a child. I can fit two large strollers, and all my groceries with still plenty of room. I would tell anybody to consider the Dodge Intrepid. Mine has been a wonderful vehicle.

i bought this car brand new in early 1998. it has performed above my expectations. it is solidly built, comfortable, and reliable and has had no repairs to any of its major components. all i ever do is change the oil and filter every 3,000 mi and do all other normal maintenance as needed (tires, fluids, etc)

  • A few too many niggles for me - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I have to say that my 98 white intrepid es is a beaut. Its too bad though that Ive had to take it to the dealership for repairs one too many times. Brakes are the most troublesome and Ive noticed that the poor plastic quality inside the car is coming off. Another fault though not from the car is the dealership serivce. It stinks! Ive tried three or four closest to my neighbourhood and they are all terrible. Times like this I wish I bought a lexus. Would I buy this car again? Maybe not, I think that for the money Id rather buy a used audi a8.

  • Never again - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

We bought our Intrepid in 98 with 26k miles. Having all family out of state, we put a lot of miles on our vehicles. This car had nothing but strange problems - the tensioner when out at 70k, starter at 36k, oil sending unit wiring harness at 96k, AC condenser and cooling fan motor at 99k. Two weeks ago, at 102k, the engine caught fire in our driveway. Insurance is calling it a total loss. We must admit that after all the problems, we werent surprised by the spontaneous combustion and are quietly relieved to be free of this car. Both of us come from Chrysler product families. Never again. This one nearly cost us our home.

  • 1998 Dodge Intrepid ES - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I purchased the vehicle less than two years ago with 60k on it. I have put on nearly 40k miles and the odometer now reads 98k. I have had NO major problems what-so-ever. I have just performed the regular maintenence items, change oil, oil filter, put K&N drop in air filter. Changed the rotors, pads and tires. New plugs when I bought the car. The huge trunk can easily accomidate luggage for a week for 4-5 adults, plus drive them along! The Auto-Stick feature is great on the ES model. The extra HP in the ES over the base model really gives the car more kick. Concrete car from Dodge/Chrysler!

  • Bought used-so far so good - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I purchased this 98 in 2002 with 45k on it. So far I am very happy. Great looking and comfy with great trunck space. Climate control and outside noise a little high. Small things like poor placemnt of cup holders and not the greatest driver friendly radio controls...although it has a fierce sound system!

absolutely no trouble whatsoever I change oil with quality oil and filter (not one of these oil change jack leg places) no problems put fresh brakes on it about 10k ago seem to be doing good. thats it
