This Year's Model Updates:

Completely redesigned for 1998, the Intrepid is a sedan that has the graceful styling of a coupe, thanks to a continuation of Chrysler's cab-forward design. Dodge's trademark cross hair grille dominates the front end along with two large, sparkling headlights. And the new Intrepid is powered by your choice of two new V6 engines.

Pros:
  • Large interior, optional 3.2-liter V6 engine, good looks
Cons:
  • Facing tough competition from home and abroad

  • I LOVE THIS CAR - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I love this car, correction.. I loved her. She was by far the hardest car I have to replace. She kept running way past 255,000 miles. But sadly, she was rear ended and considered totaled. Its been so hard to find a vehicle with all these options she had, such as the overhead console that told me my mpg and temp outside, I loved the leather seats and how big she was. The gas mileage was actually really great, the acceleration was nice and everything worked really well! I barely had any issues with her, maybe put $300 in her with the three years I had her (my parents owned her prior to me). The looks of this car was nice, sleek and clean. I think this could be one of the most underrated cars in the last 10-15 years. I am the original owner. It has respectable performance & handling. It gets great gas mileage. I have gotten 30 MPG on the highway and 23+ around town. Keep in mind this is not a small car. I rent cars all week being a traveling sales guy. I also own 7 other cars. This car is a still amazes me. 203K Miles and still very strong. No issues until the car had 125K on it. Recent repairs have included the air cond system, and the computer system. A few other minor repairs but this car never had a problem in the first 8 years of ownership. Like the design better then the Charger

Im only doing this because you showed fuel economy 20 mpg. I get 30 mpg highway even got 32 mpg all the way across Wyoming on 85 octane. Checked mpg closely last August - carefully - got 30 mpg exactly. Current odometer 99k. Im 78 yrs old. Owned several Chryslers and Dodges and Fords. Chrysler was better by far.

First new car Id ever owned, happy that it was this choice. Pretty decent car for the first completely built by computer. Gets around good in all kinds of weather conditions. Even though its the 2.7 standard model, the power is still there when you need it, and the comfort is there all of the time. At almost 50,000 miles, I am hoping to have a long, continued contentment with this car. I love the looks of it so, that I still baby it, and park it out in the back 40s so it wont get scratched. I have taken good care of this car, and it has taken good care of me in return.

  • Still love the intrepid - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I bought my 1998 Intrepid ES new in 1998. After 321,000 miles I still love this car. It still runs well even though its beginning to show its age. If Dodge still made them, I would buy another without a second thought.

I love this car! It has been very reliable with no big repair problems. I have put two new starters on it and it is using about a quart of oil /1000 miles. The mileage is 20 mpg in town and on the road. It rides with a soft ride and is easy to drive. It has no big problems that I know of. The color makes it look classy and the style of the body is very sporty. I just want a newer car with dependability--or I would keep it!

The most recent 4 vehicles of my wifes and mine have been Chrysler products so I looked for another when someone rammed my Dodge Stratus (that I drove for 218,000 miles). I was able to find this Intrepid through the AutoTrader.com link from Edmunds while I was evaluating a Dodge Neon. The Intrepid is a remarkably smooth riding vehicle, especially considering that I purchased it used with 96,000 miles on it. I drive 45 miles one way on country New England roads each day and suffer from a fractured pelvis, the ride of the Intrepid is so smooth that I am able to handle the commute easily. The 2.7liter V6 engine has remarkable pick up and cruise ability. Handling in snow and rain is also great.

This car is real cool, i love it. I just had a tranny problem but that was my own fault. I mean it is a little bigger than I like but the AC and heater are great and I love the leather. Oh and the 225hp is great

  • My 98 Intrepid - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

I purchased this 1998 Intrepid used from a Buick Dealership. This being my first Chrysler purchase, I was astonished at this vechicle. The car has NASCAR looks about her and handles excellent. Having owned several Corvettes and numerous muscle cars in my past, I still cant get over the value Chrysler has packaged into this low priced domestic automobile. In the future, Chrysler will be my first consideration when purchasing my next vechicle. I love my Intrepid!

  • Intrepid- well maintained - 1998 Dodge Intrepid

With synthetic oil and transmission fluid this car served me well for seven years. Problems seen with this vehicle are generally due to following the recommended oil change schedule. 7000 miles is too long for normal oil and will get you sludge buildup. I had no sludge with synthetic oil. It still looks good and goes reasonably fast.
