This Year's Model Updates:

For the old 1.8T GTI, the VR6 style has been dropped and more features, including 17-inch wheels and stability control, are now standard. Starting in the late spring of 2006, the 1.8T Volkswagen GTI will be slowly phased out in favor of a fully redesigned model. As before, this performance hatchback will be based on the upcoming next-generation Golf. Highlights for the new GTI include increased performance, new styling and more interior room.

Pros:
  • Hatchback utility, upscale features and interior design, strong engine and automated manual gearbox of redesigned GTI.
Cons:
  • Higher price than those of its competitors, old GTI lacks oomph.

  • Dont buy the Civic Si, think Autobahn!~ - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

So Ive had my 2006 Volkswagen GTI for less than a week now and love it! I went to go test drive it, not even thinking of buying it. I just did some research that day too. I was shopping for the Subaru WRX and Civic Si for a while, and then found the GTI. WOW. The power is comprable to the WRX. It has more features and more room to be comfortable too. The standard 6- Disc MP3-CD Player in Dash was a major thing for me since I listen to only MP3 CDs. Then I wanted the power, which I talked about. Yeah 2.0 Turbo 200hp. Im used to Hondas, but this is a fairly good transition. I highly recommended the GTI as a teenage car. It has plenty of head room in front and rear!

I just got my 2006 Volkswagen GTI last weekend. Its interior space and torque are very impressive. Its exterior style kinda grows on you, with the red calipers black is the best color. I dont have much of an opinion on its perfomance as Im still breaking it in.

I purchased this car because I needed something reliable, fun to drive, and that had enough space inside. For the price, you really cant beat it. Its quick, handles great, and all the materials in the car are high quality. I drove both the Civic Si and Neon and the construction and quality of the GTI blow them away. From the quality of the paint job (very litte orange peel) to the material the dash is made out of. The inside is very comfortable, for such a small car, there is plenty of room inside for everyone to be comfortable and still have room for storage.

  • Perfect - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

I absolutely love this car. DSG! WOW! The sport hatch is back. I went from driving a Honda back to a Volkswagen. There is no comparison unless you are straight line racing this car. The GTI is such a comfortable, roomy and well thought out car.

  • Fast, Quiet, Refined Performance - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

The 2006 GTI is quick, nimble and steady at high speeds. It turns heads. The interior and exterior fit and finnish are very good. Its handling is excellent.

  • More Fun than my Passat - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

I went to have my 2003 VW Passat serviced and bought the 2006 GTI after driving it while waiting for my car. This car is a great performer. I purchased the 2.0T with the 6M is the configuration. For the week Ive owned the car has been a pleasure. I had a 1989 Mazda RX-7 about five years ago and the GTI outperforms it hands down. I would recomend this vehicle to anyone who wants German performance/engineering without the BMW price tag. It is also quicker than the Audi TT with the 1.8T.

This is my wifes car and i want one! She was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna van, which is great for a big family but not for tooling around LA. This car is really well built - go VW! The paddles on the wheel rock, plus the tiptronic too. It is great to have the hatchback feature. We also looked at the Audi A3 with the same engine, but opted for the GTI.

I purchased my GTI in January when I sold my 2000 Passat. This is a very fun car to drive, it gets great mileage, and I can fit my bike in the back. Im lucky to have a very good dealer to deal with when service is needed.

  • Loving This Car So Far - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

I shopped around, and the Volkswagen GTI seemed to offer the best bang for the buck as far as features and options are concerned. I had a 2002 Turbo Beetle, but this car is much more fun to drive and more comfortable to boot. It has no turbo lag, tons of torque, handles well, and interior is very nice. I like having the 6 speed transmission to run on the freeway at much lower RPMs. I only have 250 miles on it so far, so my initial impressions are all positive, except for the stereo, which lacks bass on the low end. The Monsoon sound system in my Bug sounded much better. The steering wheel they threw in this car is nice too.
