Overview & Reviews
For the old 1.8T GTI, the VR6 style has been dropped and more features, including 17-inch wheels and stability control, are now standard. Starting in the late spring of 2006, the 1.8T Volkswagen GTI will be slowly phased out in favor of a fully redesigned model. As before, this performance hatchback will be based on the upcoming next-generation Golf. Highlights for the new GTI include increased performance, new styling and more interior room.
- Hatchback utility, upscale features and interior design, strong engine and automated manual gearbox of redesigned GTI.
- Higher price than those of its competitors, old GTI lacks oomph.

Perfect - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By chris - May 8 - 5:50 pmI absolutely love this car. DSG! WOW! The sport hatch is back. I went from driving a Honda back to a Volkswagen. There is no comparison unless you are straight line racing this car. The GTI is such a comfortable, roomy and well thought out car.

Great Little Speed Box - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By Joe - March 16 - 11:26 amThe Volkswagen GTI is a great car, with excellent pickup and standard features that are great. The only thing I considered adding was a moonroof. It comes with electric doors and windows and great litle VW trims inside and out. This car is great looking, it has an amazing honeycomb front grill.

Fun, Fast, and Full of Smiles - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By BLiaw - February 3 - 12:23 amAs a spare car in our garage, the GTI sees very little mileage (2,000 miles in our 8 months of ownership). Its build quality is exceptional for a vehicle of this price. There are standard features on this car which cost more on cars costing up to 2.5 times as much. It was against my better judgment to buy a 1st year model car, but problems have been minimal. Overall, this car has been a great buy for the money.

windshield cracks - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By maj - November 6 - 11:30 pmThis vehicle has had 3 cracked windshields in less than 2 years, and we cant see where anything hit it causing the crack. What we have seen is the crack occurs in an unusual pattern each time, in a 90 degree angle, looking like an "L" shape. The dealership says its a coincidence. We disagree. Even the dealership says they havent seen this pattern of crack before but they deny it has to do with the window shield frame or the installation pattern. We are sick of dealing with this and are worried that this is going to affect our premium for insurance.

The Ultimate Car! - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By PhatVeeDub78 - September 22 - 7:30 amSo far the cars been great. I was specifically looking for a black one with the 18 inch Hufeisen Wheels. It took a couple of days but a dealer found one and gave it to me for its invoice price ($24,000). I didnt get leather because leather stinks in the summer time. I love the performance and look of the car...and the xenon headlights are the Icing on the cake!

Way too many small & stupid problems - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By Vik - June 12 - 10:10 amI have had so many problems with this car in terms of rattles that its not even funny. In terms of engine, driving, fun factor, etc., its great, but when you have to turn your stereo on every single time you drive just so you can drown out the sounds of the rattles, that stinks. I really like the way this car looks, handles and drives, but I have had way too many little problems with this car, noises, quirks, weather strips coming off, to ever want to buy a VW again.

The 2006 Volkswagen GTI is Sick - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By flipp - August 26 - 1:43 amThis car is sick. I have owned all kinds of cars, the GTI is fun to drive, comfortable, sporty, safe, etc. I commute 16,000 miles a year so the reliability remains to be seen, but initial build is very good. Love this car!!!

Love this Pocket Rocket - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By theo - January 24 - 6:06 amI owned three different vehicles since my last VW which was a 2000 Jetta VR6 and Im glad to be back in a V Dub. My family (me, wife, two little girls) use this as our daily transportation and love it. This car corners and stops very well. Its acceleration is very good too. I was concerned about its fuel efficiency, but Im not anymore. My wife and I took the GTI on a trip soon after we purchased it and got 29 MPG.

Nice Car! - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By jim - August 26 - 3:16 amI just bought my first VW and it is a 2006 New GTI (2.0 turbo). I am very impressed by the handling and performance of this car and would highly recommend it to others. It is fun to drive, decent on gas, has pleny of leg room, and it is FAST! I test drove one last week and when I came back home I made the decision to go out and by this car the next day. I have no regrets.

Love/hate relationship - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
By lilcoop - July 20 - 4:30 amI loved my GTI from the 1st time I drove it. I even traded my BMW 330ci for it. I love my GTI, still, except I hate it when it doesnt run. Which is altogether too often. Unfortunately, I feel I have to let it go - there have been so many little bugs and repeated check engine lights. It has 42k on it, and has spent 14 days in the shop for warranty items, in addition to regular service. I cant afford to come out of work to a car that needs to go for service or wont run. It makes me sad that it isnt reliable. I love my fast.
