This Year's Model Updates:

For the old 1.8T GTI, the VR6 style has been dropped and more features, including 17-inch wheels and stability control, are now standard. Starting in the late spring of 2006, the 1.8T Volkswagen GTI will be slowly phased out in favor of a fully redesigned model. As before, this performance hatchback will be based on the upcoming next-generation Golf. Highlights for the new GTI include increased performance, new styling and more interior room.

Pros:
  • Hatchback utility, upscale features and interior design, strong engine and automated manual gearbox of redesigned GTI.
Cons:
  • Higher price than those of its competitors, old GTI lacks oomph.

  • Nice Car! - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

I just bought my first VW and it is a 2006 New GTI (2.0 turbo). I am very impressed by the handling and performance of this car and would highly recommend it to others. It is fun to drive, decent on gas, has pleny of leg room, and it is FAST! I test drove one last week and when I came back home I made the decision to go out and by this car the next day. I have no regrets.

  • Dont Buy This Car If You Want Quality - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

I am completely and absolutely disgusted with VW. I have to wait for a zone rep to approve repairs on a car that was driven home from the dealer and once to my job. I am not using it again. The field rep isnt coming unil the 27th of this month so I am out a car till then. They are going be over the time (lemon law) before it is fixed. Period end of story, game over. How pathetic is it that I buy a new car and cant use it for over a month because some rep has to "approve" paint and windshield repair? If you are a quality minded person, then you should go elsewhere, VW doesnt care about you...they just want your money.

  • Love/hate relationship - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

I loved my GTI from the 1st time I drove it. I even traded my BMW 330ci for it. I love my GTI, still, except I hate it when it doesnt run. Which is altogether too often. Unfortunately, I feel I have to let it go - there have been so many little bugs and repeated check engine lights. It has 42k on it, and has spent 14 days in the shop for warranty items, in addition to regular service. I cant afford to come out of work to a car that needs to go for service or wont run. It makes me sad that it isnt reliable. I love my fast.

After two months, I love my GTI even more. This is my sixth VW, after the Corrado SLC this is a real VW again. Bravo Volksburg!

  • DSG in 1/8th mile - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

For all of those who think DSG is weak because its an auto, think about that next time I can pull 1 to 1.5 seconds ahead of you by having the transmission alone. I raced a worked out Neon SRT-4 at the track 1/8th mile, bone stock I ran 9.89 and he ran 10.75. So I say let the numbers talk.

  • 3,308 lbs of fun - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

While only owning this car for about a month, Ive had the opportunity to take a couple of 250 mile trips. On the interstates, this car is fairly civilized and comfortable; its an absolute blast on the back roads. The exhaust note stirs the soul without being obnoxious. Driving around town sounds like it would be bothersome as my car is a 6-speed manual but, the gearing is such that youre only shifting to 3rd gear and possibly dropping it in 5th if you can cruise. This car is considered by some to be expensive for its class. I feel that you get what you pay for. What I paid for is a very well made, fun to drive, economical and well thought out car.

  • Pocket Rocket - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

This is my second Volkswagen GTI and I must say they get a bad rap on the speed and handling sides. With a straight (no cat) exhaust system and a set of TEIN coils Im able to hustle Nissan 350Zs and stock Honda S2000s to the point of spin in the moutians. All while being able to clock repeatable 14.4s @ 94 mph at the local drag strip. Try to find that elsewhere with heated seats and 150 mph stability in other cars for $350 a month.

  • I love my GTI! - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

I bought my 2006 GTI with DSG in March 2009 and have loved every minute of driving it. The power is great through the power band. Its not a great family car but I can fit two car seats in the back with no problem. The only issues I have is with the stereo and the lack of power seats. You would think they would have power seats and a better stereo in the car. But other than that it is great car and fun to drive. Plus if you do a few modifications you will be able keep up with some of the higher end sports sedans and pass the tuner cars. If you are looking for car with individuality, great performance, great styling, and good gas mileage the MKV GTI is your car.

  • The Best GTI Ever - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

After couple of thousand miles with the car mostly on the highway I am convinced that this is the best Golf every built by VW. A very stylish appearance combined with a powerful engine and an excellent suspension makes this Golf a sports car for the everyday usage.

  • This Car Absolutely Rocks - 2006 Volkswagen GTI
    By -

I have in all my life never driven a car that is as much fun as my new GTI. I am 27, so I have had the opportunity to drive a few. The acceleration, handling, and above all else DSG are amazing. Point blank this automatic is by far the best thing on the market today. Dont believe me? Go drive one, but be prepared, after driving one of these babies youll never want to get back in your old car. So make sure you have your checkbook!
