This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • A Sports Car that Gets 40 MPG - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have put 3,000 miles on this car so far. It handles like the MGB that I had in college but it gets outstanding fuel mileage. It is comfortable and fun to drive. I have already taken two long trips and it is more comfortable than my Olds 88. The trunk is huge. It has a "real" spare tire! Things to watch include the speedometer is not correct (a European thing) and there are side blind spots. Other than that, it is perfect.

  • Great so far - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Had the car for about a week now and no issues. I had a pebble stuck under the car and it made a weird noise for a few minutes, but now its gone. The ride is smooth and excellent. I like the handling of the manual transmission. The interior is very nice and comfortable for passengers. The sound system is pretty good. Its got a whole lot of features you normally wouldnt get from a car at this price. Exterior window movement, heated side mirrors, diffuser climate control, rear vents, etc. Just a blast to drive, fun car but has a look of style.

  • 06 TDI manual with pkg 2 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have 40000 miles on my 06 TDI now and have been averaging 42 miles per gallon. Thus far the vehicle has not had any major breakdowns as did my 04 TDI. The 06 is a major improvement over the 04 in many ways, reliability thus far, and namely the interior room was a vast improvement over the 04. The car is comfortable to drive on trips considering it is a smaller vehicle. It has a solid feel on the road and is quiet considering it is a diesel. I am reluctant about the reliability, due to my experience with the 04 TDI but so far this 06 has stayed out of the shop except for routine maintenance. The 06 is peppy but does not have the snap that the 04 did. Good car.

I purchased my car used a year ago with 22,000 miles on it. I was reluctant about buying a used vehicle, but needed something inexpensive and good on gas for my long commute to work. My jetta now has over 57,000 miles on it and has NOT let me down! The car is roomier than the generation of Jettas before this model. The trunk space is HUGE and with the folding rear seats, you can pack a lot of items without a problem. The car takes synthetic oil, which can be costly compared to an oil change using regular oil. However synthetic oil is better for your car anyway and is typical for European engineered vehicles. Overall a great vehicle.

  • The Best - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is a really fun car to drive. It gets great mileage and it doesnt look like the hideous Honda Insight or Toyota Prius. I cant describe how much I love my Jetta.

  • I Still Love My Jetta GLI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This is a GREAT car. I have owned many different vehicles. It is reliable, fast, and fun. VW has built an Audi in VW skin. It gets 30 MPG on the highway, while accelerating to 60 in 6.4 seconds. How it is not on everybodys 10 best list is amazing to me.

  • "BIG" Surprise - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

So I never intended to even look at a VW Jetta but was coaxed into trying it on for size. Im 63 & 300 lbs so you can imagine my skepticism. I sat down totally blown away. Tons of head room, leg room, comfortable seat, & still with all of the above to spare. Next thought? oh it wont be any fun or have any power. 200 HP out of an inline 4 cyl turbo. GREAT pickup & performance, gears changing so smoothly I cant even feel them change. Takes a corner like a pro on rails. Great MPG to boot, well as long as you dont put it in the sport mode & drive normal. All in all I couldnt have picked a better car for what I wanted. Safety, performance, good MPG, 4yr/50k warranty, comfort, & style.

  • Poor Mans M3... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I used to own a 99 M3...so I know what I am talking about when I say this new GLI from VW is "a poor mans M3"! What I mean is, a new BMW M3 retails for over $50,000. The GLI can be bought (well equipped) for around $25,000! This car performs as well as most would expect for the price. Its powerful 2.0T engine gets you going fast right off the line every time. The spectacular DSG transmission is state of the art. (why hasnt Porsche stolen it from VW yet...Ill never figure out?) When you want to haul four adults economically, but in style and with a sporty nature to your ride...consider a GLI. Its the best Jetta of the bunch by a long shot! And a great overall bargain sports sedan.

  • Why buy a 325 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Remarkably quick acceleration and handling for a front wheel drive. 17" wheels and window tint are a necessary upgrade for the value edition. Interior has held up extremely well and I have had no problems with the car so far, but of course it is still under warranty. It does seem to get out of alignment easily, which burns up the tires.

  • New Owner - Retired Car Buff - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I walked in to the dealership and asked for a Jetta TDI automatic with leather. One was found soon and we made a quick deal, but they held to the sticker. I dont like the $299 processing fee, but I paid it and drove home. I really like the TDI as I already have a 2005 CDI. Now all I want to drive is the TDI. It is getting about 12 mpg. more than the CDI. The Jettas handling and ride are excellent. Its torque is not as great as the CDI, but good for 100 HP.
