  • Matrix Love - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Been a Honda guy for 15 years and my mechanic said i should give toyota a shot. So i did, and im really really happy with the Matrix XRS. If you are going to buy the matrix and youve driven CRXs and VTECs you must get the XRS. In fact go all out do all that you can with TRD, exhaust, sway bars 17"rims, strut bar, intake, synth. oil and youll really be impressed with the performance and fuel economy.

  • Not your parents Toyota - 2003 Toyota Matrix

This was our first new car purchase, and given our extensive Toyota experience (5 previous used Toyotas), we were expecting much. The flexibility of a 64/40 fold-flat rear seat with solid plastic cargo liner was outstanding. So too was the fold-forward passenger seats, which extend the size of possible cargo to 8 in length! Unfortunately the other aspects of the car werent panning out so well. To summarize, performance, economy, fit-and-finish, trouble free driving, and fun to drive quotients were just not living up to the claims. After repeated problems with MAP sensors and various parts breaking repeatedly, if fell out of love. Now 7 years old, Ive seen enough of my last Toyota.

  • A very slow AWD wagon ! - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

I test-drove the Matrix in March 02 with my sister. She did eventually bought the AWD in July 02 after coming back from a trip. I dislike the fact that it is a VERY SLOW wagon. I drive the AWD Subaru Outback, it is also 4 cylinder and with 165 horse and 155 lb-t, some areas get 158 lb-t. Man, I feel that the Matrix is just a shameful product by Toyota. It does get you to the snow mountains, but only without much passengers and other additional lugguages and weights.

  • Get the XR and not XRS - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Another review mentioned to get the XR and not the XRS and Im glad I took their advice. I test drove both the XRS and the XR with the sport package. I parked them side by side and could not tell the difference. Inside was exactly the same and the engine didnt feel that much more powerful on the XRS. Not only will you save thousands, but the gas mileage on the XR is 30/36 as opposed to 25/30 on the XRS. I love the car. It drives great and I have no problems with it. If you go XR I recommend getting the 5 speed Manual. Some say the XR is sluggish, but the 5 speed Manual is pretty good.

  • Safe in a crash - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Ive driven my Matrix for a few years now. I love the interior. Its very comfortable and the dash looks attractive. Recently I went on vacation with a friend of mine and she drove us in my car. There were some deer in the road which caused us to swerve and crash head on into a tree. This car saved our lives. It was totaled but we are alive and came out relatively well. A few broken bones and bruises later...But honestly for a smaller car it took the hit well. I would recommend it highly. I wish I still had it.

  • Did they make this car just for me? - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

When I started looking into this car, I thought Toyota had gone and designed a car just for me! I mean, I needed a sub $20000 vehicle with at least 4 doors, with a sporty feel and great reliability. Took one look at this car and knew it was the one. Didnt want a stick so, the XRS was out of the picture and the XR had all the options and specs that I wanted. I drove it first in a base model with 16" steel rims and let me tell you how much a huge difference the 17x7.0" aluminums make. The car has great handling, a little heavy, but still really great. Happy I bought it and looking forward to many good years life from this Toyota.

  • Awsome Sports Wagon - 2003 Toyota Matrix

WOW what a car! AWD (all wheel drive) system is flawless, and GREAT mpg for a AWD car. Looking for a great AWD car for under $20,000, the Matrix is the best bang for the buck!
