  • Matrix XRS.... Awesome - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Ive owned my Matrix for almost 2 months now.. and the car is awesome... my previous car was a 1994 Acura Integra GSR... Although the Acura was a "sportier" car... the matrix doesnt fall behind at all... sure, the acceleration was quicker in the Acura, but not by much, and if you factor in comfort, style and the snazzy 6th gear... the Matrix comes out on top... its no slouch, the 1/4 mile a respectable 15.6@91. the car seats 5 comfortably, and had more headroom than needed... If you need to carry something, the Matrix can handle the task well, giving some amazing room with the 2 rear seats folding to a 60/40 position...

Meets hauling needs. XRS auto averages 25/26 mpg. Armrests are too short and the window controls are at too severe of an angle. I have developed pains in my left wrist from the location and position of the window controls. I am 511" in height and find these window controls awkward to use. To avoid further wrist pain, I am now using my right hand to control the window levers. Glare from the rings around the gauges make it difficult to see the gauges at certain times during the day. I may end up painting the the chrome rings to reduce sun glare. After market window tinting has helped reduce glare and heat, since the a/c is not very efficient.

Wanted to downsize from a SUV, and to buy "greener". Looked for the best combination of reliability, reasonable price, fuel economy and generous cargo space. I have found it.

  • Absolutely love it! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

This car replaced my Volvo wagon. The matrix has tons of room, great fuel economy and is a breeze to park in the city. The seats fold completely flat. My two boxer love the fact they have more room than they did in the back of the volvo. The seats are are contoured and very comfortable. They adjust updown, back front, tilt. It is our vehicle of choice for road trips and our other car is luxury cadillac STS. At the home depot last weekend I bought an 8 ft ladder and it fit no problem in my Matrix. So far no problems with reliablity. The only time its been to the garage is for an oil change and tire rotation.

  • Jills 5-speed Matrix XRS - 2003 Toyota Matrix

As a first-time Toyota owner, I was looking for a surrogate Honda Civic wagon. Im extemely disappointed in the quality--the transmission has already failed, requiring a $1300 repair. I had required maintenance performed ever since purchasing the car new, primarily by the dealership. While the car has a lot of potential, I will never buy another Toyota; anyone looking for a Matrix may want to avoid a 2003 manual transmission model.

  • Fun, useful car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

This car is exactly what I was looking for - something to haul friends and stuff in - including filthy mountain bikes - without the hastle of a roof-rack. Interior stowage is plentiful and clever. The seat and driving position is great. Price is great. Wish it had more power (read torque - the 180hp engine has no more torque) Handles very well.

  • The Perfect Car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Best car Ive ever owned. Period. Over 100,000 miles and NO PROBLEMS! Maintenance costs are low, fuel economy great. No mechanical problems. Only problem so far is a rattle in one of the (overall excellently designed) air vents. As for the complaints some have about power, Ive been able repeately to smoke people with base Mustangs (v6-automatic)! Enough room for 4 people with weekend camping/outdoor gear. My next car will be a Toyota. I wont even look at GM, Dodge or GM after experiences with their vehicles. Perfect replacement for a VW Diesel AND a Dodge Dakota.

  • So far so good - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I am very impressed with the power of the 4 cyl in the XR model w/auto transmission. Interior is designed well. The only complaint I have with the car is the fuel economy 21 mpg city. Im hoping it gets better after it breaks in.

  • My space pod- COSMO - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Love my little space pod - cosmo. I love the head room in the front of the car and dual hatchback lift. My cosmo provides a very pleasant, smooth, and comfortable drive.

  • I hate the shifting in traffic - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

When Toyota says in the brochure that the Matrix is Sportcar, Wagon, SUV and blar... I thought that Toyota really mean it. I love the Matrix at first, but after driving it for a while I never have the trill to drive it fast or at least at the speed that I want. I loose to WRX, CRV, 4Runner even Honda Odyssey at greenlights. And mind is a 6 speed.
