  • A tall station wagon with style - 2003 Toyota Matrix

When I first saw Matrix in 2002 New York Auto Show, it looked very very fresh. No other cars have matched Matrixs fresh styling!! The body kit, aerodynamics, alloy wheels and headlights look very cute and aggressive. However, there is slight disappointment in power. The automatic does not feel lively at all. I lost to my brothers auto 03 CR-V which only has 160 hp, and mine 180 hp. The torgue needs to be improved. Yet, auto gives comfort. Interior is kind of too dark also. Many, not all, like dark interiors. But, the Matrix is surely a big toy for big kids like me!! Handling is okay until I lowered the car by an inch more.

  • Fun and Functional - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I have had my matrix now for little over a month and I love driving it. Yes the pick up could be better and the engine more powerful but it gets me where I wanna be. Its fun to drive, super comfy and great on gas mileage and when you drive nearly 500 miles a week like me thats the best part.

  • GOOD MILEAGE DEAL!!! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I heard CD players scratches CDs but, My CDs are not scratched from it yet. I heard there is noise from the dash board, I have not heard it yet. I think its a good deal for a first car for young people.

  • Great Car All Around - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Roomy interior, excellent cargo space, and surprising standard features such as a CD player and outside temperature gauge. I have the manual transmission, and shifting is super smooth. Quiet ride, no rattles. I bought it because the Corolla engine has consistently achieved high reliability ratings over a long period of time, but the car is also just plain fun to drive.

  • Underpowered but a great car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The car handles well and looks cool. It can carry things and is moderatly fun to drive as long as you know that you own a mix between the two cars that are thought of as underpowered. Station wagons, and hatch backs. It does have AWD and that was one of the main selling point of the car for me.

I went to the Toy/Honda dealer looking for a more relaible car than the 300TE Mercedes wagon we now drive. Already have a SUV (Suburban) and sports car (1955 190SL) and a highway cruiser (Volvo 850 wagon). As soon as I pulled into the dealers parking lot and saw the Matrix, I knew that was it.

  • A Fun Ride - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I bought it because I loved the exterior and the amount of room inside. Performance is about par for this class. No slouch but no burner either. The interior is more hit or miss. The instrumentation can be hard to see in bright sunlight or if the lights are turned on during the day. Fabrics and plastics are pretty good and the seats are comfortable. At the end of the day, I still find myself admiring its looks.

Excellent, no compaints. Matrix runs great and also gets great gas mileage. I am averageing close to 40 mpg on trips. Lots of room in the back with seat down. I have used it for sleeping on several trips and found it very comfortable. The AC outlet has been very helpful for things like, charging phone, recharging camera batteries and playing cd player or video games. I have had it for over 3 years now and am very satisfied!!!!

  • A Fatal Flaw - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

The Toyota Matrix HR would be my choice of an all around vehicle, but for one serious flaw - poor visibility of the instrument panel during daylight hours in bright sunlight, or when wearing sunglasses. This is not a minor flaw, as having to squint, stare, remove sunglasses, or attempt to shade the instruments from the sun is a dangerous safety hazard. Driver attention is diverted from the road for far too long to be safe. Oil and water malfuctions can ruin an engine if not seen in time. The bottom line is that the function of an instrument panel is defeated if it cannot be seen in a quick glance by the driver.
