The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.

Pros:

  • I love it! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Although Ive only own this SUV for 4 months, I must say this is probably the best SUV Ive owned so far. (Ive had a 95 Jeep Grand and 07 Honda Element.) I originally thought the XREAS suspension was some hokey-pokey nonsense but after driving my friends 05 SR5. WOW, what a difference. this thing has plenty of power, the interior is almost as quiet as my sisters 08 RX350, I love the black interior, the power seats are comfortable. I can go on raving about this SUV for hours but Ill just keep it short. Bottom line, go drive one and experience this great SUV for yourself!

This 4Runner is definitely at the front of the pack. We looked a numerous SUVs before deciding on the 4Runner. Even though the America car companies were offering 0% financing for 72 months, we decided that the Toyota quality was worth paying for. We have own numerous vehicles from different manufactures, American and Foreign, by far the Toyotas have been the best.

  • Great truck, must maintain w/Toyota - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I have owned my 06 Sport 4x4 V8 for 2.5 years. I bought it with 147,000 miles from a Toyota dealer. The reason I was convinced to buy this vehicle was because it had been maintained by Toyota since new. Since I bought it I have spend $3500 maintaining it (cataylytic converter, timing belt, water pump, axle, brakes, etc.) That is all in addition to the regular scheduled maintenance. It looks great and runs like a top. If you want an excellent SUV that is still "trucky" consider this vehicle. Maintain with Toyota and you will have a truck that will run for a lot of miles. I am currently at 182,000 and the steering is still tight. I highly recommend the 4x4 v8. Runs like new still.

Simply put, this is the best SUV in its class. Nearly perfect. It easily beats the pants off the rest. The V6 has tons of power and runs smoothly. If you didnt know better, you would think it was a V8 by the feel. It is very responsive and easy to handle. It feels more driving a sedan but make no mistake about it, 4Runner really shines off-road. Does fantastic in the snow and ice with traction control, ESC, and a ton of other features. I feel very safe in this car because it is so solid. Gas mileage is great for an SUV this size, I usually average 21 mpg in town and about 24 hwy. I would recommend 4Runner to anyone.

Overall very satisfied with the vehicle. It is a smooth and quiet ride on the highway, but can be uncomfortable on uneven surfaces. Suspension is tight and you can feel it. The safety items are great. Traction control and stability control are worth it. My wife complains when she dives it in rain/snow because the traction/stability control is too contolling. But she also spun my old truck in the rain one time because she just gave it more gas when the wheels spun. The 4Runner doesnt let you mess up like that.

  • 2006 Toyota SR-5 V-8 is by far the best car - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Buy a Toyota 4Runner with total confidence. This 4R has been totally awesome. I have not had one single unscheduled repair. I have changed the oil and replaced the battery and tires as needed. In May of 2015 I replaced the timing belt, water pump, struts, brakes, rotors and spark plugs. I have the big V-8, but get a consistent 22.0 mpg city/highway. This car is roomy, comfortable and is an outstanding travel car. I cannot think of one single negative thing to say about this 2006 4R-SR5. Every day I see tons of these models on the road, in spite of this car being 12 years old. No one want to get rid of this model, and why should they? I salute Toyota for a job well done on this one.

  • Quality SUV-But Has Quirks - 2006 Toyota 4Runner
    By -

Have owned this vehicle for 18 mos. and overall have really enjoyed it. Have previously owned 3 Explorers, 2 Bronchos, & 1 Cherokee & this beats them all hands down. The sound of simply shutting a door tells you its built better than the American SUVs. Gas milage is better, the ride is smoother & you just feel safer riding in it. The only drawbacks are quirky things such as; Non-lighted & oddly placed door switches, beverage holders that dont seem to fit anything, only (1)12V power outlet that goes dead when ignition is turned off, so you cant charge anything overnight, Zero foot or storage room under seats, remote that lowers back window but doesnt raise it back up??

  • Toyota Quality Continues - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Great gas mileage for a larger V-6. A recent long trip yielded a 21 MPG average. I love the torque, it goes when you want it to. Nice interior, well designed and user friendly. Highway noise is minimal, if any. Added features from the dealership, like tinted windows, compass mirror, and signal side mirrors add to the comfort and luxury of this mid size SUV. Toyota continues to produce high quality, dependable, affordable products for the American driver.

  • Would Not Trade My 4Runner For Anything! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

My 4Runner is amazing. I love the buttery smooth V8. The interior is perfect. Comfortable and supportive drivers seat (I have a bad back) great sight lines (easy to see all around the vehicle) and gas mileage that is within an acceptable range for me. My local dealership experience is 1st class, from the salesman to the service dept. I am not a Toyota freak. I have owned vehicles from 9 different major companies. This truck ROCKS!

  • Very nice truck - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

Always had Jeeps before. Bought this 4Runner and I have to say that Im very impressed. The 4wd system can run in 4wd on dry pavement, or you can run it 2wd. Locking center differential is electronic, so you dont have to worry about the transfer case binding on dry pavement (since it can be turned off). Interior room is very good, low, flat load floor in the rear is good, and ease of putting rear seats down is easier than the Jeep. The v6 is an excellent choice with plenty of power, and decent towing capacity for small jobs. I like the driver instrumentation and the stock radio has an MP3 player capability. Good fuel economy with the v6. Avg. 19-20 mpg.
